Yes, seriously. Why is dedicating a victory to a rider who died using a common (and not banned at the time) cocktail not compatible with criticising a rider who cheated their way to 7 Tour wins and a multi-million dollar fortune by using a drug that was banned and which they constantly denied using with threats and bullying?

Drugs are drugs you are desperate to defend your boy Wiggins. EPO was legal at one time as well. Hypocrisy again.
Simpson was like a walking chemist. You can't defend someone who was so far gone and so desperate that he Kills himself trying to get a cycling contract with no thought for the loved ones he has left behind. Its so Sad. These are not hard luck stories of heros these are stories of desperate selfish men who are have no thought for no one but themselves . I would not celebrate that sort of death. I have rode up the ventoux many times and Im not going to stop for a junkie. I rode up clean and and a pretty fast time as well. We let Pantani keep his tour win yet Armstrong has his removed. Its bullsh%t. Let them stand or wipe them away.

I thought everyone on here would have a bike computer pretty much, and go out on familiar routes. Has it never struck some of these people that you comparing speeds with a headwind/will/tailwind takes a couple of glances to see it has massive effect.

The Ventoux is a windy beast as we know, and yesterday, apparently, so it keeps being said, there was a tailwind... I can't remember the last time I watched the Ventoux and it was clearly said there was a tailwind, but there's normally lots of talk of the difficulty of the conditions.

A lot of the times/VAM calculations don't mean anything comparing to most years.

Surely most people have ridden along into a wind thinking 'christ, Im only going 18mph along here I usually go 25' or 'I usually go 20 along here, and am holding 27 with no bother at all'.

I just don't think yesterday's times tell us anything but that there was a good tailwind, as a lot of people went up fast.

The wind was coming from the West, the climb above the trees is predominantly to the North West so it was a cross wind but not helpful. This photo shows this quite clearly

    art-svTOUR-620x349.jpg

Below the tree line the climb is to the East the North but the trees shelter a lot of the wind.

How about we all believe someone who actually rode the thing?
@Greghenderson1: Tailwind up the whole climb helped my watts per kilo guys so don't go getting too impressed by my time up Ventoux.”

Not really. You can agree or not simple . But you cannot prove Im wrong .
The thing with any drug is that it gets abused. Pantani is listed as having died from EPO and we all know he was taking a lot more than that. These things are never simple as the effect on anybody eating or drinking anything can be fatal i.e. peanuts . Should we ban Peanuts? You cannot stop athletes looking for an advantage. Its what they do. So lets give them an advantage, lets control it, lets make it safe and even out the playing field as best as we can. Lets get our past results back lets get rid of the hypocricy of drugs in sport. You have Wiggins saying what a disgrace Armstrong his then dedicating a race win to the memory of Tommy Simpson. Hypocricy at the highest level.

I know you have already taken quite a bit of flak over this post, but could you be so kind as to post a link to the site that lists Pantani death due to EPO?
It could help to stop the word troll getting worn out very quickly, around here.

I never said that at all. What are you on about?

I'm no expert but I'm astounded you know so little if you talk so much. " Your astounded, I'm astounded , we all are astounded .

BTW, what are the performance benefits of peanuts? Speed sir speed. We all know peanuts give you speed.

Training as moved on, a lot, and so to has the support behind it and of course equipment and clothing etc, just maybe Dopers were and are lazy and might not even be that physically talented, whereas we are now seeing those willing to put the work in and train to win and win clean are now just starting to beat all the ex dopers.

Pantani died as his depression lead to drug addiction, and in his particuar death case, a cocaine overdose.

The roads are so much faster now as well. Cyclists can go faster.

There will come a time when bikes will be as fast as cars. But only for those who put the work in.

That's written two days after Pantani died. The coroners verdict wasn't known until months later.

Seriously, do some research if you want to make the sort of claims you've been making, this is just embarrassing.

    giro-2010-st10-HENDERSON-FROOME.jpg

I’m a big fan of Chris Froome.

I remember watching him in the 2010 Giro.

Dave Bruyneel assigned him the job of pushing the sprinters when they had a flat tyre.

Froome Dawg was really good running in his cleats.

Never thought he’d push 460w up Ventoux but all that training pushing Greg Henderson sure helped.

Bloody hell, that's Froome? You could fit two of the current version in that guy......no wonder he's going up hill faster
