Didn't see the stage. What did Sky do today?
Tried their very best to catch De Marchi before he took the win. Made up about a minute in 2km somehow. Froome was trying to give it to Porte, then even accelerated with 500m to go to try and take it when he saw that Porte didnt have it in him.Contador is the Greatest0 -

How was it bizarre? It made complety sense. That's UCI ranking for you.
Riding on the front of the previous climb, leaving Rogers and Contador alone.
Contador following Gallopin, leaving Rogers entirely isolated.

Well, I never.
1st, 2nd and team prize for Sky. Just like last year.0 -

Depends. If you dont want to watch a Sky slam-down, no - but on t'other hand if you want to see what we're saying re strange Saxo tactics, yes.

Predictable and unbelievable from Sky. But other aspects made it worth watching.
They also tried to force the pace after Contador was dropped.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Furthermore the race leader tried to help his team mate and friend to the stage win. What a horrible man.
As to whether it was worth watching, hmmmm not really. The weather was pants so you don't even get to oggle at the scenery.Correlation is not causation.0 -

Now that's a bit easy to say now, eh?.. Rogers hasn't really shown any sign of weakness in this race. Quite the opposite, actally. They just did what worked quite well yesterday. Doing their best to secure his position on the podium. Do you actually believe that Rogers said in the radio: "I'm feeling s'hit - go pacing!" - because I don't..0 -

Possibly but why conform to normality? Makes it more interesting for the viewer.
Forcing the pace on the last climb and the attacks from Valverde etc were attempts to whittle down Sky's numbers making them vulnerable on the final climb. It nearly worked as both Stannard and EBH were dropped. Then Contador was taken out and more Sky boys appeared off the conveyor belt. If they arrived on the final climb with fewer numbers and burnt their lackies off early, they wouldnt know what to do when it would have been mano a mano.Contador is the Greatest0 -
hope sky make it look as easy in the tour.
Love the fact so many people hate sky because they are good! Get slated when they dominate a mountain stage, get slated when they try to win a stage, get slated when they don't win a stage. Would these people rather that the British team were absolutely awful?http://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0 -

Contador going with Gallopin certainly wasn't in Rogers' best interests. He started sliding backwards immediately.
I don't know. It's good that they tried something, it just didn't seem a very cohesive attempt. It was a little bit go for the stage win, and a little bit protect Rogers. Surely saving Paulinho for the final climb was the better tactic if it was all about Rogers podium place.0 -

I was never a Sky fan at the beginning, but the fact that they annoy so many people for so many illogical reasons makes me want them to do well now. Couldn't care less that they are British beyond the fact that they have helped to popularise cycling in the UK and that can only be a good thing.Correlation is not causation.0 -
1st to 3rd separated by just over 2mins.
3rd to 10th separated by just over 2mins.
Its what we call two speeds.

But Turfle, the only way to get rid of the teammates of Froome is by attacking, making them go beyond their watt limits. One of Froome's teammates is Porte - which was in front Rogers in the GC. Rogers didn't show any signs of not being able to follow the best before that last climb. The last climb of the entire stage race! The last 5 km of the entire stage race! It's a damn bad time to crack on. As I wrote in the previous reply. Rogers wouldn't have invited pacing on the stage if he felt bad.
I think it's a bit easy analizing their tactics were odd after the race ended. If Rogers had stayed on his level of performance when Contador attacked he could possibly have taken Porte's 2nd position in the GC as he had to chase Alberto (or he would have let Alberto go and Saxo would have had the opportunity to win the stage)0 -

If the plan was to overhaul Porte then I question the tactic even more. Either go for the stage win, or protect Rogers from Navarro and Moreno. Doing half and half rarely works out (same with Froome trying to get Porte the stage win today).0 -

So what you're saying is they're riders capable of being in the GC top 10 of a week long stage race two years running?
That when they're the top 2 riders in a team they come in 1st and 2nd and when they're arguably the 3rd and 4th ranked riders in a team they come in 3rd and 4th?
What else are we supposed to be looking at?Correlation is not causation.0 -
There is a big difference in being able to podium and being able to ride into the top 10. In normal circumstances also, you dont go from crushing some people to being crushed by them the next year.Contador is the Greatest0

Ummm? Surely you do if you're a protected rider versus when you have to ride as a domestique?
By that logic Frenchie if you don't come into the sport and immediately start winning somehow you are suspect? Really? That is so ridiculous and doesn't take consideration of the countless variables that go into winning, some of which are not even in the control of the rider or the team such as the form of your opponents.Correlation is not causation.0 -

Obviously not. Not something I would say and not something I said above.Contador is the Greatest0 -
He just doesn't understand cycling at all.
How can Kennaugh drop Rogers?? Well because Kennaugh doesn't care how fast he gets to the top (and he ended up losing 1'30 to Rogers).
How can one rider do better the next year?? Well because instead of riding for someone, he has people riding for him
How did Contador not crush the field today?0 -

Just enjoyed a roast chicken cooked to absolute perfection on the BBQ and served with a delicious homemade pesto and jersey royal potatoes.
