Basically this, in a conversation with Vaughters

Digger: Magnus Backstedt got fired from Garmin for failing an internet dope test. I know this as a fact
    Vaughters: No he didn't
Digger: Are you calling me a liar? I dare you to call me a liar
Vaughters: You're a liar and I hope Magnus sues you. I would love to present the information under oath

    Digger: delete, delete, delete

The guy's an utter clown. The David Icke of cycling social media. He's who Kimmage gets his information off these days, I believe.

I remember when JV told him he wasn't Interpol - That was funny.

Head of department at the Institute for the Gifted. He'd be fired if identity became known.

He's still getting a pass for funneling other people's money to Underpants despite knowing he was working both sides, or at least covering up that AB was a fraud to keep money flowing. Strangely silent on this topic when challenged.

Those guys are so f'ucking boring. There's no way they are fans of cycling.

They reaaaally are struggling and fighting to become popular like Race Radio. The fact is, though, that Race Radio actually likes cycling and keeps the aggressive anti-doping stuff for when it's not beyond ridiculous.

Why is everybody fuelling this guy's fire? I unfollowed him ages ago, when I realised he was the internet equivalent of the drunk bloke at the bar who you try to avoid because you know he's going to keep you talking for 5 minutes about how all the immigrants are stealing our jobs.

I haven't followed this bit. When did he know AB was batting for both sides, was he CCed?

He is clearly the biggest gobsh!te in the twaliban... I have the honour of being called a 'fecktard' by him - it's a badge I wear with pride.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

He pops up on your timeline sometimes when Vaughters or others reply to him. Sometimes it's hard to ignore.

His claims, then deletions, then re-claims in softer terms, then deletions last night were particularly cowardly.

Yes. It should have said 'internal'. Imagine an internet dope test though. I'll be off to the patent office on Monday morning.

Said it before, will say it again.

It's a f*cking ballache watching cycling in America. I can tell you that with first hand experience.

You need to be reasonably computer literate to do it, and it's enough of a ballache that you it can only really attract hardcore fans, who, broadly speaking, are a little unbalanced.

That combo basically means the internet forum/twitter people make up a much larger proportion than they do otherwise.

And with no mainstream authority/punditry, coupled with the conspiracy nature of doping which, let's face it, is a soft spot for most yanks, means you get a bunch of self appointed anonymous 'experts' who get far more exposure than they otherwise would for utter guff.

And yes, I appreciate the irony of this, given I'm writing this as a moderator on a cycling forum with over 20,000 posts, and I think I'm god.

But y'know, all seeing and all knowing and all that jazz.

bloke (assume it is, but easy to spout crackpot theories behind a pseudonem) is a grade A tool, completely ignoring inconvenient facts like av race speeds in Wiggins (and Evans) TDF wins v 10 yrs ago, the fact Sky have (because they can afford to pay them and develop them solely for that purpose) a team of top 10 GC contenders willing to ride for a single man (most of the time), or that there isn't a single credible piece of evidence - no failed tests / TUEs ; no dodgy rubbish in the bin ; no drugs found in apartments ; no voices speaking out from the ex staff - all of which existed with USPS. Have made the mistake of pointing this out to him on twitter and of course am now a 'fanboi'.... Ridiculous - can't have rational debate where people refuse to be rational....

Not in my name. I am a pacifist, who exists in a zen like state of calm. The anger of others washes over me like the cleansing water of the Ganges. I use twitter to spread my message of peace and love to all (of my 200 followers)

I swore once, and have never forgiven myself for it.

This is why I only use Twitter for work, it's hard enough having a rational debate with these people when you have a practically unlimited word count, it is almost impossible in 140 characters and the retreat/resort to ad hominems becomes almost inevitable. I've noticed they've started turning up in greater numbers in 'mainstream' media discussions now. I went to take a look at some of the comments below the Froome wins Dauphine piece in the Guardian and beat a very hasty retreat.

Fair enough, but there are some people on twitter worth interacting with. I'm happy to chew the fat with anyone so long as it stays polite.

Oh I don't doubt that, but it's also what you have time for, its hard to keep on top of social media and then when someone winds you up on it, it's hard to just ignore and/or walk-away (for me anyway, its very distracting and I need brain space for other things), sometimes it's better to ignore the battlefield to begin with so as not to get dragged into the war. :D

The problem with twitter is that the 140 character limit means it's hard to have substantial conversation. Any points, by their very nature, will be somewhat superficial. On the hand hand if you want to throw out allegations and restrict comebacks, this same shortcoming makes it ideal. A forum such as this allows for a more comprehensive repsonse. I think Festinagirl found this out when she briefly popped in here.

(As a method of disseminating information, it's second to none)

Both good points, I tweet most when at work and bored out of my brains, it can be a bit addictive so I try and not use it too much, though I often fail.

I think the brevity of it can be a blessing and a curse, I don't think it's fair to compare it to a forum though; I get my news and gossip from twitter and a more varied and detailed response from here, it works together quite well in my view.

How good a conversation you can have on twitter depends on the tweeter, Festinagirl, for all her foibles, is a master of the 140 character argument. Being a bit more verbose, I struggle a little with it, but like to think I give it a good crack.
