Ultegra triple front derailleur is looking very tempting right now

    *slap*

Look you bunch of bloody bike snobs, just bugger off the lot of ya.

Triple means I can use the 39 ring for damn near everything and save my flaming knees from exploding while trying to lose some of this bloody weight I've put on. I was up to 15st 8lbs and a 40" waist  I've lost 8lbs so far and need to lose another stone.

I honestly do not understand this attitude about triples though....

You use the 39 ring for everything?!! NEVER drop into the 39 ring - 52 or 53 at ALL TIMES for me...

Yeah, but are you permanently cross-chained to the 36 at the back?

    I didn't. No wait... yes I did :)

Big spending day in the Trouser houshold: I get a new frame and Mrs T gets a tumble drier! I hang 99% of the washing too so double result! :D

Seriously? The Scott is better frame than all of those above and you can build it for around £1300 with Shimano 105 and decent kit.

I haven't. Should I? Not that I know which shop you mean. Can't see anything that looks relevant on Wiggle, Wheelbase or Winstanley. =)

    I do have a 2009 Scott CR1 though.

Seriously, though, what's Di2 got to do with fettling?

Take your point -quite happily alternate between exceptionally well adjusted Tiagra (if I say so myself :) ) and Di2. But snake oil is taking it a bit far... Di2 is quite nice

You're maybe the man to ask for help here :
    Swithering
    a) Do I buy a Scott CR1/Addict (SL models obviously) : how good ? Currently best bike is a Principia alu frame.
    b) Which do I go for : older by 3 years Addict or 2012 CR1

Have you ridden a CR1 SL and Addict SL ?
Are your Addicts or have you ridden the SL / HMX versions ?
Also not 100% sure of the Addict geo in comparison to CR1 geo.
Addict said to be racier : comparatively longer TT, lower HT.
I don't want a silly-low bar position but I am happy enough with shortish HTs and I don't think that I am going to ride super long rides although I rode an Etape a few years ago on a super-stiff Principia and was perfectly comfy.

    Edit to add :

A worry re Addict SL's ?!! Maybe they are/were too lightweight.

Aaah, the Addict SLs have gone again, maybe just 1 reappeared to be snapped up.
So, is/was the Addict SL a different & superior beast to the CR1 SL ?

Superior if it meets your requirements.

Same carbon, same stiffness, negligible weight difference, different geometry.

I'd be uncomfortable as buggery on an Addict, does that make it rubbish?

The Addict is aimed at the out and out racer - no concession to comfort for the sportive rider. The CR1 is more aimed at the all day, sportive rider, although even it has a fairly aggressive frame, it's not got the most relaxed geo

What those guys say up there. Got a 2008 HMX Addict R1 (same frame as the Ltd) with normal BB as my 'good' bike and a 2011 HMF Addict R3 as my commuter. Big difference between the feel of the two but I think that's more down to wheels/gruppo than the frame. Never ridden a CR1. The missus has a 2011 Addict R15 (HMF) which she much prefers for racing to her 2012 Cervelo R3, same size, same level groupset/wheels etc, dialed in to pretty close the same geometry contacts-point-wise but she finds the Scott corners much better.

Manhattan is leaving me a broken man financially.

I just assumed it'd be as expensive as West London.

    It isn't.

So no bike kit for me for a looong time.

Ah boo shucks... In that case can I order online bargains in the US and get them delivered to your NY address for you to bring back to Blighty with you? :)

What - as in raw materials or eating out? I certainly found eating out to be available cheaply enough ad I'd have though groceries would be cheap. Just use the places that often have police cars parked outside and the remains of chalked outlines of figures on the pavement.

No CR1 for me (have somehow resisted snapping one up even with their reappearance today) - I think if any medium Addict frames reappear on the Westbrook site at the original offer price then I'll just have to ignore any sensible thoughts and get one. Still not 100% sure if the Addict or the CR1 suits me more but I do feel that the CR1 is a touch high/short for me in a 54 and the 56 is over-long / high with a near 18cm head tube, that's just too much.

So the thread for people that have bought one is 5 pages and this only 3. I am definitely in the minority, especially as 3 of those that haven't bought one already have one anyway.

You go to the supermarket buy supplies and cook as you would at home, how is that more expensive unless you're eating out 3 times a day?

Cost of food even in those supermarkets.

An example. The cheapest box of cherry tomatoes in my local Sainsbury's in London: 99p. The expensive stuff, £1.60.

In Manhattan. The cheapest. $4. (that's £3). The expensive stuff. $6.

Packet of cereal. Cheerios, 350g (nearest equivalent). $5.

    Pack of sausages. $7.

I can see why everyone eats out - it's no more expensive when it's $10 for a Burrito bigger than your head.
