Makes the Pinarello Bolide look like a Brick.

Do the Maguras just fit the frame no probs or is there a bit of custom fettling going on there Colin?

Sorry haven't read all the previous posts, I know you ve done a lot of work to get it to this optimum development point.

No the Maguras were basically a 'bolt on'. The only tricky part is cutting/bleeding the hydraulic lines. Shop did that for me.

Colin, how easy does the Maclaren helmet go on?
    I've read that it's a b1tch to put on.

It's tight. Have to do it gently and the wider your head, the harder it is. It's very comfy once actually ON though.

Nope. Several spokes just came out of the hub. I was going full beans in a straight line so it just made a whole lot of noise. Rebuilt and back home already!

    I wonder what caused that?

Woah! That's not good. I hope you're going to contact Zipp and get a replacement or similar if you haven't already! :o

I have good connections with them and the wheel has already been rebuilt with a new hub. THe reality of cycling is... things break. I'm lucky to work with good companies that back their products up when they do.

Colin, again if im being inconsiderate then please tell me...

Are there rules governing the shape of your prosthetic? Like in running they need to have a certain spring to the leg is there something that says your leg has to be of a certain shape and size?

I get asked this a lot, so no problem...

No, there are no rules. However, we built it to meet 3:1 standards like any other bike part... just in case. I don't want to be the guy they make a rule because of!

If I win anything of note this year, I may consider doing that. Last year I spent too much time putting Rainbows on things and not enough time actually trying to earn the right to retain them. This year the hard work comes first. :)

    Beautiful bike.

Shocked that Zipp still have not sorted out the issues with there hubs, could have caused a nasty accident.

    Hello,

Am responding to the section on the Zipp Hub failure:

Had a similar case about two weeks back when I just had set off on a ride. Thankfully didn't come off the bike but with a loud bang the front wheel started collapsing. I was only doing 30kmh...

How am I supposed to regain confidence in these wheels? Let alone the brand...

Bought these in early Feb 2012 so still just within the 2 year warranty period. I live in Germany and the Retailer has dealt with the case (as stipulated by the warranty wording on Zipp's webpage). Also informed Zipp in the US.

Now I am informed that the German importer has repaired it by replacing the hub and spokes. However, since the hubs and spokes are in Falcon Grey I seem to be getting exactly the same hubs. Apparently Zipp's updated version using a better alloy to prevent exactly my case here are only in Black and out there from end 2012 onwards. The Retailer has the repaired set but I have put on hold to ship out to me until I hear from Zipp again.

I have explained my case to Zipp directly and am hoping to hear back from them to see what they will do. I don't expect much except a "that's the policy" kind of answer. They could at least replace the set, ship that to the importer who replaces it for the retailer and let me pick something new.

Anyone who takes their descents seriously or just prefers to keep their original front teeth, knows what I am talking about...

As for their brand... how can you not take this to the limit and make sure anything is done to protect it by going the extra mile? Especially in the day and age of internet.

Just wanted to get this out there.

    Thanks,

  • Coming onto an internet forum and complaining about a product failure when the retailer and manufacturer are doing everything they can to get it sorted for you is a bit out of order. Not really fair on the manufacturer if you're showing them in a bad light despite them giving you a new set for free. Yes the hub failed, and Zipp have updated their design for 2014 to avoid it happening again. No need to let the world know that your hubs failed.

    What are you talking about?
So the right course of action would be to keep it secret? It's not an isolated case and there are people out there riding these wheels, they have the right to be informed regardless of whether the poster will receive brand new wheels or not.
As he/she ppointed out, a recall was probably the right thing to do, seeing how many of these hubs have failed in the same spectacular and dangerous way
