Damn, that was good fun! I love selective stages that don't necessarily end with an uphill sprint. Small groups that are a few seconds apart chasing each other on a flat run-in seconds apart is way more exciting!

Yeah, good ride by Nibs, well, by all the top 3 really.

Nice to see Contador off the podium, just didn't have the legs. Looked downhearted in the the interview, didn't sound or look sincere when he said he was happy.

Sagan plainly says he told his riders to go to the front to pull the break back....

You re hilarious you really are - The highlights have just shown Astana and Cannondale trains pulling the break back and setting up the win and second place, yet you have the gall to suggest that Sky are boring because they ride with a train?

Froome pulled himself inside out to get back up to the group, that contained your hero, on his own, yet he was somehow has no balls

Seriously, Specsavers could nt sort out your blinkers....

Be fair, Contador was 15s off the front of that group.

But you're right. I don't think many riders would have the legs to pull that gap back after bridging across on their own.

They ended up all vaguely together though did nt they?

LoL, Sky fan boys all confused. Why is Froome not at the front? Becuase he had no team to do his work, the plan failed and he has no legs to ride, no heart to hit the front and no balls to descend like fire.

    You truly have no class!

Contador interview in English. Love it.
Clearly he didn't think much of today's parcour.
Happy? he certainly didn't give that impression.

Right, well perhaps that might quieten a couple of the conspiracy theorists re Sky for a moment....

Hang on, what's this...Sky deliberately threw today to throw people off the scent? WOW....DaveB's GOOD.....

To within 5s yeah. We're agreeing I think. Froome spent all his biscuits getting up to a decent sized group and was fortunate they were able to pull back the 4 in front to a reasonable gap.

Classic Nibali there. Even when he knew Nibali would be driving it on at the front Froome was just hanging at the back of his group.

Froome 34 secs back from Nibali. Can that be pulled back in the TT? Purito ahead of Contador as well.

Nibali a decent TTer though not as good as Froome/Contador . Now time to go and hunt up the profile for tomorrow...

Nick Bull's worked out that Froome needs to make up 3.5secs/km on Nibbles tomorrow

Dont think it will happen. Nibs was 20 secs off Canc in the final TT last year so cant see him dropping 34 to Froome whatever the course looks like.

Any chance all the others could just fall off and let J Rod win as stupidly backed him for the win.

But it seems it's you RR that always drags up the 'sky conspiracy theorists' in threads. Like just now.

Should be an opportunity to get rid of Froome's support on those slopes though if someone is prepared to risk a podium place for an outside chance of a win.

Posted numerous pages above. Apologies for blowing my own trumpet but it's the first time I've ever had a prediction come true. I haven't seen it yet but from the posts above I'm surprised how big the time gaps got though, I thought it would have closed up more on the 10km to the finish though. I'm also a bit surprised that Henao and Uran couldn't stay in touch enough to get back and help Froome as I'd have thought the short, steep climb would have suited them.

Hope you'll plug you're brain back in first FF.

Don't think I can recall FF ever slinging insults at anybody - so many throw them at him, if you don't like what he has to say - fine, argue but resorting to insults is not too classy.

The second climb was not as brutal but on the descent there were some tight hairpins, it was quite wet & looked like a new road surface. The front group were not easing up either, so the 2 groups behind would have had to have been near suicidal to chase it down.

Once on the flat Berties group seemed to not be going as hard (though he did look a bit flat TBH at the end) as Froomies who had made up a lot of time on the straight flat road.

Maybe he doesn't often resort to outright insults but he is frequently extremely condescending and patronising, not to mention so utterly sure that his views are correct that he's unwilling to entertain any other opinions. That's not exactly classy either.

Cheers all, I had intended staying away from this thread to avoid the result until I'd seen the race but the massive increase in posts dragged me in. So who's going to start going on about Sky dominance now? I still think Froome is vulnerable even with the team support as I don't think he has the self belief and can get a bit panicky when a plan fails.

Jesus, we get some seriously good racing and yet people are still engaging in petty squabbles over who called who what.

Yeah, sorry about that. Back on topic - today was the greatest day of stage racing this year. Very enjoyable to watch, hard hard stage.

It was just an uncontrollable stage, and he's not nearly as good on that terrain as Nibali. I don't think it's anything more dramatic than that.

Contador is usually pretty decent at those sort of stages, but he looked remarkably human again.
