I never mentioned it though. It's also not my job title.
    Is it important ?

I'm no sherlock, but your name is on the top tube of one of your bikes in a recent pic, and your email address (in your profile) contains the name of your workplace. Not difficult to find a pic of you and read about you online. You might want to adjust your privacy settings, or not - it's up to you.

    Wow, I feel important.
You guys ask me questions or comment on my posts, some of you good, some bad but other than be new here, ask a few questions and buy a couple of things you guys don't approve of, what have I done ?

If someone tells you what you have done, you'll just jump on them and call them a moron - which sort of sums up what you've done!

Honestly, you'd probably do well to stop digging yourself into this hole enjoyable though it is. Despite what you might think, I doubt anyone here isn't right behind you with your cycling (except DC maybe - he's way out infront of course  ).

Are you really going to pack your static training bike to go on holiday/work trip? Don't you stay in hotels with gyms?

    You're an odd one.

And what are you on about when you say "the roads are too wet here, it's been raining (words to that effect". The UK is in glorious sunshine today and so it has been for a few days!

    Get out and ride!

My guess is that he may not be on here for a while. I don't think he realised that everyone knew who he was. Not that it matters, but some people are funny about that.

  • What an odd bloke, still can't really understand the guy at all. Odd, very odd. Why on earth would you buy all the gear but have no intention of ever riding outside. Seems despite his apparent wealth that he plays the "feel sorry for me I'm fat card" as if to seek reassurance which sounds so pathetic. I'd rather be buying a budget bike, budget clothing and actually getting out on the bike and enjoying myself than spending my time whittling about it.

As was mentioned, likes the idea of cycling and buying new toys, lording it over people but not having the ability to go out and enjoy them!! Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.
  • Feel sorry for the guy now. Leave all that personal information lying around; boast about cars, bikes etc; and then announce you're heading off on holiday. Not clever.

Dont feel sorry for me, life isnt that bad. I just find it disgusting that anyone would even suggest trying to research who a poster was on a forum, for one thing it could bring about burglars to try and break in to take anything from the house etc, not to mention the fact that its been mentioned that I work away. I HAVE A FAMILY FOR CHRISTS SAKE !!!!!

I made it clear earlier in the post that I was simply giving back as good as I got and was way out of my own character, it was clear the same few people had taken a dislike to me which is fair enough and followed me into every post just to argue my points (i never followed anyone into theirs!).
I feel vindicated through posts about the latex inner tubes and the PC vs Mac where although the same few argued with me, everyone else agreed which proves the point I was trying to make.

Anyway, I take on board what you guys have said, ive probably beed incredibly over cautious in not taking to the road and am happy to announce that I clocked up a 10.6km ride last night although this morning I wasnt so happy about it (aching legs)

So, with the above in mind, I would like to apologise to anyone ive upset, it wasnt intentional and I probably let myself get carried away due to arguing with the same couple of people.

I'd say you only have yourself to blame, you posted your full name on a picture and you had your work place in your email address (both now sensibly removed) I had a quick google on you just out of interest but certainly with no intention of saying what I'd found or with any malicious intent.

It's good to see you got out on your bike yesterday, keep at it. The saying is that it never gets easier it only gets faster is not really true, by the end of the summer you'll be out for 60km rides without thinking about it. The only really important thing in cycling is actually cycling. I've had brilliant memorable days on the bike going back many years where I can remember the climbs ,the descents even certain corners but I'd struggle to tell you what bike I was on at the time let alone what flippin inner tubes I was using. Don't get bogged down in what's not important, just ride your bike.

That was my point, and why I said I feel sorry for you. Can I also suggest you remove your real name from your imageshack account or will you jump down my throat again?

And whilst we're doing online safety - if you use Strava or similar GPS apps - make sure to cloak the beginning and end of rides. One of my mates is a policeman with the Met and he's seen a few bikes stolen - the link was that all of them were using GPS sites to record their rides and they didn't bother hiding their homes on the GPS plot.

They've done you a favour. Better you find out before someone malicious does. Either you make sure your identity is entirely anonymous online and you can chat to your hearts content about your forthcoming 6 month family trip to Bolivia and defective burglar alarm or you exist online identifiably and keep quiet about everything!

I think the issue is that no matter what is said, the select few will not stop and lets say my house was burgled this evening, or my children and wife beaten whilst the guys search the house for keys for the cars, bikes and anything they could want, you guys would simply say "you deserved it"
Im not angry, just upset that people can be so incredibly malicious, especially the guy who has sent pm's with info on my car, where I work and a direct link to companies house. I just think WTF!, if your life was that bad why not aske me for a job ? why not put that effort into making your life better ?
Its so freaky im lost for words.

Anyway, 27lb to go, new guard dog on order and bigger bolt for the garage.

Can't you see that you've been shown the pitfalls of putting personal information online. Sure it's a bit weird if someones sending you pm's, but maybe it's just another way of letting you know how easy it is to follow up on information placed online. As for all us guys saying 'you deserved it' - what a load of 'bollox, I doubt if there is one person here that would think that, plenty of us think you're a prat for what you post and how you to try to play the victim but no one would wish anything like a burglary on anyone. On the other hand maybe it's just another excuse to just stay in on the turbo all the time in case someone does come round.

I'm not going to get into the discussions above but back on topic

I started similar time to you with limiting time too, but I've been on my bike a handful of times only and a couple of recent 30mins on turbo

You mentioned you've been doing regular turbo 20km so that's 12 miles
And did 10km yesterday on road so that's 6miles

How does speed, time compare from your training to road?
I've been averaging 12-15 mph for each hour ride I've done but have nothing to measure whilst on turbo at the mo, but be interesting to hear your comparisons

Also which was harder 10km road or 20km turbo?

Not read all the above but if people wanted to track things, it can also be done on some photos ie those who upload with iphone pics it tags details on location and with the correct software individuals can decode this

Just ignoring the thread drift onto personal information on the internet (you're a programmer?! and you didn't realise ;) )

Anyway - all I can say is well done ...

Am I jealous? Yes - I haven't got the sort of bike & kit you've got - and I've got >4.5k road miles under my belt (>7200km for you!) in the last 2 years. Neither have I the inclination to sit for hours on a turbo - despite having one available it just doesn't get used much - so well done for having the determination to do that too...

I can understand the clamour for all things tech - just to make it easier/faster - but TBH, you'd be just as fast on a base model bike with standard stuff on it - still, if it makes it more desirable for you to ride then go for it - it's your money!

The guys are right though - you need to get out on the bike and ride roads - don't ride at full chat though - ease off a bit and take it steady - stick to quieter roads and just enjoy the countryside a bit - the miles cruise past - especially if you stop looking at that s&dding gps every 3 seconds! ;) Just try and keep it steady and practice riding without wobbling (you don't get that training on a turbo - try rollers!).
Roads do not have to be dry to ride on them - it's nicer - but TBH, as long as its not really pissing it down we'll go riding ...

Do the guys at work know you're riding? Have they offered to ride with you at all? If you're shattered after 10k then that's fine - they could do a short (slow) loop with you and then disappear off for a good ride of their own - I'd be surprised if they don't encourage you - although I suspect you'd need to be prepared to be the butt of a few (good humoured) jokes. As long as you're honest with them about your level they'll most likely play ball - brag about your ability & kit and they may ride you into the wall ... metaphorically ... ;)
  • I stand by everything I said but if you are still too unfit / scared for the roads have you considered finding some industrial estates. They are usually well lit and offer road conditions without the ferocity of traffic. In fact, considering the pictures you supplied of the exotic motors you probably work on one!

I think you've missed the point here. I'd think the guy who sent that was just pointing out the information that you've willingly given out over the internet to complete strangers. 99.9% of whom are lovely people who like bikes and cake, and then there is the odd small percentage who are evil scumbags.

I doubt the guy was after a job (nice bigging yourself up there btw) - he's trying to do you a favour. If my teen had given away all the info that you have online - I'd be b*llocking him. Its just plain common sense. Learn the lesson - thank him and move on. He didnt make all the info available online - it was you yourself.

If your drivers had been tweeting information about their cars setups and blueprints - I'd think you might be a bit peeved too ?

(and no its not me who PM'd you)

Your post was funny to read as I was actually thinking how much nicer the cheap bike was compared to the expensive one. The cheaper one feels much smoother and the expensive one much harsher. I also find the road much harder than the turbo but there is no real brain activity on the turbo, I just peddle.
The fact the AR4 is a nice bike I didnt find an issue myself, the truth is, I only picked it as I liked the look of it, I had not ridden it myself prior to purchase. As above, I think the decathlon BTwin is a great bike and its a great bike to cycle on.
I know a lot of people have a huge distain for turbo's but I read an article last night by the team principle of Team Sky who attributed a lot of their results by his insistence of the team using turbo's, he said they were frowned upon by other teams who would give interviews after each race whereas he made his riders go straight to the turbo before and after each section and now they (other teams) have almost all followed team sky in using turbo's.
Now of course im not saying im a pro (dont need another argument) but I do believe the turbo has helped, only yesterday was the first time I was able to run a 20km cycle whilst holding the bottom bars for the entire run, I feel stronger and im down around 6lb so its obviously working and given that I get more time in the office than I do free time I dont know why people seem so hellbent (not aimed at you) about not using a turbo so much. I hate it, its no fun but im losing weight and im obviously getting fitter so for me its a win win.

However.....I am fully intending to do more road miles and as the weather picks up I will of course be doing more and more.

@anyone about the security, to me it wasnt an issue about my name, I dont have anything to hide and I wasnt upset about anyone looking for my name from the bike or from the username etc, the only thing I took anger to was anyone who would make an issue of it, to me, if it were genuine concern a quiet pm would have sufficed.
Its like knowing your neighbours door is open then going into the street and shouting about it whereas I would quietly knock on the door and tell them as to me that would be the only sincere thing to do (but thats only my opinion)

I know Brailsford swears by turbos for the riders cooling down properly after a race. That's not the same as what you're doing.

Turbos are a great way to train if you cant get out on the bike - but most of us prefer the feeling of being out on the bike.
