Excited in a very childish way as I've been invited to an Audi track day this week, to drive the V10 R8, RS5 and TT-RS. Maybe not as iconic as some of the handsome metal in this thread, but the R8 has a Gallardo engine and is as fast as fupp......
The R8 is the gallardo, its great to drive, just remember that the car will keep going straight even when you think it wont, keep the power on and be careful of the rumble strips.
Update...... awesome day out blasting up and down the A82 in a V10+ with ceramic brakes and 550bhp. I know what you mean now about it going straight when you think it won't/can't. Acceleration is astonishing, and that V10 bark as it blips on the downshifts in sports mode is spine tingling. Even better soundtrack in the V8 Spider with the top down. The RS4 and TT-RS we drove felt sluggish by comparison. Anyone got a spare £130K they don't want.....?"Get a bicycle. You won't regret it if you live"

Favourite car -> 1969 camaro. No picture ever does this car justice. Seen one in the flesh at a car show. Absolutely unbelievable. Easily the best looking car in the world in my opinion. They sound just as nice as they look too. Beauty.

I knew you would like it. They are a great car.
If your really into cars, we run a few track days during the summer and this year we are using Aventador's and 458's so if there is space and you fancy a rip in both of those let me k ow and ill get it sorted. It's all good fun.Living MY dream.0 -
Make sure you put the sport button on its makes the r8 a totally different car to drive, fantastic even. For me scariest driven Ferrari 599. Best noise sl63 AMG or f430. Fastest s65 AMG at 199mph. My favourite car? Vauxall Astra van 1988. It was my first car and went everywhere in it. I would buy it back but when I looked up years ago it was used in a robbery and burnt out :-(
Best car in the world? Diesel golf. Does everything brilliantly.0 -
Thats a real good summery Jeff, I love the sounds of the high powered mercs.Living MY dream.0

They were a dream to drive. I've been lucky in the past four years here I've had the job of driving them and its been fun.
S65 AMG
Sl63 AMG
Audi rs6
Audi RBI spider
Three Bentley incarnations
Mer sls gullwing
Ferrari 458
Ferrari 599
Ferrari California ( great seats but terrible car )
Ferrari 430
Many others that i cant think of but the 599 was stunningly fast. Looks like them days are over now sadly but we all move on. Will have to dig some pics out0 -
Most fun to drive & excellent pose value goes to a 1993 Unimog 1450. Stock photo here...
But, sticking to the brief, it has to be a good old Fiat Uno with over 100k on the clock. Or that I once had in my brief possession the 2 millionth mini. That's what the plaque said on the back shelf anyway. As I recall, in a rather fetching lemon colour.
No not the new one!
This one...

That's a great lineup of cars. I would have thought that you would of had the 458 at the top of your list. That's the best Ferrari ever built. Ok, not as prestige as a Dino but on the track it is better than Porsche so must be held in extremely high regard surely !Living MY dream.0 -
Probably but I never to give the 458 a good drive before it went back to the uk so can't comment how it was to the others but it certainly was focused to say the least. The 430 I drove the most so got the most out of it as its a bit scary each time a new car to drive and never had them long enough to learn them as it were and not to mention not being mine so tends to make you drive it a bit easier! One thing I did remember was fun we had a gallardo when I first got the job and a mate was driving that and I was I. The s65 AMG limo. Pulling away from a standing start the merc left it for dead. Good times but sadly over now. I'm working with bike come the end of the year which I will prefer.
As for a great car anyone got a fiat 500? Now I'm changing jobs I've got to buy the mrs a car and she wants a fiat 500. Anyone driven one? I will hardly use it so it don't matter to me. Any good bad experiences? I'm hoping they are good.0 -
I just ordered my son a 500 arbarth as his first road car. I think they all look lovely.Living MY dream.0

Spoilt much? Great car though.
Oh, and the Dino wasn't even a proper Ferrari.0 -
I guess he is spoilt but if you can give your kids things you never had as a child I'm not sure that's a bad thing as long as they appreciate it.
As for the Dino, you could say that about most cars Ferrari made, almost all were in collaboration with other people.Living MY dream.0 -

Only if you had a really deprived childhood or you don't like how you turned out yourself
Not really, I would say how it started out, not how it turned out.Living MY dream.0 -
I have to write software for this today, ive just been out for a test run and its very responsive, I like it.

I just remembered a car that was truly great. A Lancia Delta HF we bought as a completely disposable track day car. We cut the springs down a touch, fitted decent shocks and harder bushes. Then a set of competition brake pads and some good oil went in. We did a few track days in it and it was an absolute scream. It would carry a hell of a lot of speed through corners, but obviously not very powerful. On one day at Castle Combe an embarrassed TVR owner was overheard saying the track wasn't suited to powerful cars as it was too tight. Really? After being thrashed mercilessly several times it had a most unfitting end when it got torched outside a friends house.

You can't just remember you had a delta ?!?
One of the best rally cars ever made, and apart from the 200 was a game changer in modern automotive racing. A true legend. The growler was an animal and was the best fun ever (when it worked) I really wish I still had mine as they are worth a fair packet these days.Living MY dream.0 -
Delta HF and Delta Integrale are two very different cars mate0

I'm slightly aware of the differences. I was referring to the fact that the delta was the base. The martini still raced and both were paramount to the way racing developed over the years.Living MY dream.0

500 abarth one of the best cars out there at the moment i think. dread to think of the insurance premiums. great car. im going to get the mrs a 500 but only the "council edition" as here in spain touch bumper parking is a national sport and it will look like scrap in 12 months time no doubt.0

Audi RS4 may be tempted with the RS8 just as its easier to chuck the bike in the back.0

My favourite car was my second - a converted MK2 Fiesta van (1.6 non-turbo diesel). Rear windows had been cut into it and the previous owner had slapped in some back seats but the seat backs themselves had nothing holding them in place. The ratchet in the drivers door window had failed so everytime I crossed the Severn Bridge and paid the toll I had to steer with my knees whilst pulling up the window with one hand and turning the handle with the other. It was a great car though, I had it four years taking it from 78,000 miles to around 180,000 miles and about the only thing that went wrong on it was a water pump. After my first car (a 1.1l MK3 Escort that spent more of the year I owned it in a garage than on the road) it felt like luxury. I suspect it will remain my favourite car right up until I finally get myself an Aston and possibly beyond because it holds some special memories for me0

Smart Roadster
Amazing fun little car. Cheap to run, great handling, soft top, whistling turbo behind your ear. Happy days.
Cons - Dodgy gearbox, tiring on long motorway trips, leaked, nowhere to put a bike.0 -
My 1978 Lancia Beta HPE 1600 - it has a mustard yellow interior as shown below and was Rosso Corsa on the outside with a black vinyl roof.
Features:
Oil level indicator inside the car
Dual air horns which gave that classic Italian Sports Car wheeeeinne noise which I loved
A super sweet free reving twin cam engine and twin weber carbs which when you gave it the beans you could hear then sucking the air in.
Total unreliability and the lack of towing eye fixture meant I always had to ensure the AA brought their tow truck as their roadside mechanics never had a clue how to fix it.
There were a number of Monday mornings where my first call was to the garage in Perth to explain why my car was waiting outside having been dropped off by the AA.
I have never loved a car more than this one and probably never will.
