Ever thought of sticking nitrous through that V engine ?

It's a cross bolted block, but still not sure whether it would let go under the additional strain of nitrous.
That said, I used to know a guy who had the same engine, but with a couple of T3 turbos bolted on. Cooling was an issue, buy it was ferocious ! Don't know as it lasted too long M

  • my old 205GTI 1.6 was utterly brilliant (apart from being a bit unreliable and shonky build quality such as the entire dashboard shaking when the front wheels spun up). i still see it around 10 years later and it sounds like a bag of spanners and i've even beaten it from the lights in my sensible family diesel people carrier... it breaks my heart!

  • Had a Mk2 triumph Vitesse convertible with the straight six, overdrive 3rd and 4th and a live rear axle. It was great fun but a bloody expensive nightmare to keep on top of the maintenance. Wife No1 had a Mk2 MX5 1.8 sport which was also great fun to drive around the lanes of Hampshire.

    My last Golf Mk2 16v:
    IMG_0398.jpg
this was lowered 20mm, P&P, gas flowed head with mild fast road cams, and was running at approx 170bhp. Doesn't sound alot but it was enough to embarrass alot of modern hot hatches among others.....:lol::lol::lol:

I'd love another, maybe one day but I've now more money in bikes than I had in the Golf!

TVR 450 SEAC. I first sat in one of these at the Motor Show in Brum, started my love affair with TVR's. It might have been an ugly supercar, but boy was in good in a Top Trumps game. :D
As with all the old Rover engined TVR's, it sounded blummin amazing too.

I used to have a Scirocco Mk1, loved it, drove like a Mk1 Golf but cornered a bit better. Dont have any photos but it was similar to the one in this pic. Have often thought of getting another but its the unavailability of the panels and body stuff compared to a Golf Mk1 which makes them too much of a chore for me now. (not to mention they're like rocking horse sh1t to find)

Still think the proportions and lines were so right for its time.

  • I was fortunate enough to do a 4 year apprentiship in the motor trade with Ford and back then Austin Rover. Iv'e driven some proper sh!te in my time but some that I have fond memories of are the Ford Sierra Cosworth, one of my old school chums was picked up from school by him mum in a black 500 version such a great looking car with that whale tail. The Audi Quatro Coupe, another class mate at school, his dad had one.

From my apprentiship days, the Rover SD1 Vitesse V8, Maestro Turbo (so so quick and with drum brakes on the rear WTF!) the Mini Cooper (the proper John Cooper conversion) Ford Escort MK3 RS Turbo, Fiesta MK2 XR2, Renault 5GT Turbo an old school mate had one as his first car at 17!! another mate had a Capri 280 Special, Rover 800 Vitesse (with the Rover O series turbo engine, that was quick for such a big car)

I've not really owned too many cars but the best was the Mazda MX5, the missus lost the back end in the snow and dinked the rear wheel and vowed she would never drive it again so we got our first of 3 Audi TT's, the first was Quatro and no where near as fun to drive as the Mazda, the second was front wheel drive and a complete sh!t bag to drive, the 3rd is a TDI Quatro black edition, which is ok to drive but she loves it so that's what's important, right?

My dream car has to be an Aston Martin.

I recently sold my Alfa 156 Sportwagon. It fits in with Cleat's OP by having a lot of character (for a family estate). I bought it with a little bit of money I inherited from my Italian grandad's estate. He was an engineer and immediately after WW1 he worked for Nicola Romeo Engineering, he then went with him to Alfa Romeo. So it seemed fitting to buy an Alfa with the money I got from him.
Unfortunately my wife never liked it and after 5 years it's given way to an Audi A4. Horrible, bland thing.
    I really miss my Alfa.

+1. I had one of these in GT form (no new-fangled GTI for me). An absolute hoot to drive and a joy to look at. I traded it in for a Sierra diesel :(

I'm not into cars, so I can really only judge from looks, but a Triumph TR7. When I was a lad, someone who lived near my aunt had one of these and it just looked like the coolest thing on the road.

Just a Brilliant Car for summer days.........
    Full length roll back sunroof.
Seats can be removed just like that and used as picnic chairs.
    Air-cooled flat twin.
For the lady driver the gear lever was a perfect place to hang your handbag
For the male perfect for hang your bag of take out curry!

I must admit the thought of driving a couple of hundred miles in one at my advanced age is a no no!
But I am looking for one as a toy for the summer.
  • ooops there should have been a picture of a Citroen 2CV above...

  • My first was an Allegro 1100 1975 - square steering wheel and all- I really loved that car
Now got a Bentley GTC - fast, comfortable , luxury on wheels - undoubtedly the best car i've owned and really quite different from the allegro :D
