Almost a *Spoiler* thread
Well, you can start the tour in a few hours time according to
http://trainerroad.us2.list-manage.com/ ... 93d1336950
You can balance the stages to suit a timetable and work a little easier.

Hopefully this will get my weight down under 170lbs by the end of it.. having come down from 181 just after Xmas.

    I feel sick
  • It would have been great if they had a way that we could use the videos for the tour, rather than having to buy the entire set.
I would happily have paid a few quid for one use of each video for the tour, but I don't want to shell out to get them all, then probably never use the majority of them again.

Unfortunately I guess if they made them available short term, people would copy them and not bother buying them if they wanted to use them again outside of the tour.

I guess you can just use the trainer road workout and not bother with the video at all, although I am going to download the ones I need as I go I think, I will reward myself with the next video if I survive the one before!

The rules on what a day is are as follows:
Each tour day is active while it's that day anywhere in the world. It starts at 12am Kiritimati time (UTC+14) and ends at 12 midnight American Samoa time (UTC-11). This makes each tour day last 50 hours and days overlap. Local time is irrelevant. Rides must be completed and uploaded to our servers during this 50 hour window to be eligble to win prizes.

So it should be possible to get a rest day in.

Oh, and assuming people are using trainerroad, are you running at 100%?

I think I will start at 90% and see how I go.

Haven't ridden for almost 2 weeks... away with work for the first week and just been really busy catching up with work this week! grrrr..

Anyway, think I'm going to drop my FTP by 10% and see how I get on at 100%. I haven't got the videos, but struggling to see why people think they are needed. Maybe I'll buy one or two to see if they help.

Good luck everyone, although I thought I had another week before it started (rather than it being tomorrow!)

  • I've got all the videos and find them a huge help during the otherwise boring exercise that is the turbo.

Wont be taking part in this tour, although I did the Sufferfestukah over X mas which was very similar and it was tough. If you do them all one after the other you can get knighted!

    I'm in....

Will be banging out the first ride tonight. I have a feeling that my FTP has dropped since last test so I am either going to reset it in Trainerroad or just run at 90% during the exercise.

I wasn't planning on buying the videos (would become a relatively expensive jaunt otherwise) I usually manage to watch/catchup some TV iPlayer etc.

God, I thought i had messed up! deliberately off the bike today for a final bit of rest before starting the tour tomorrow afternoon. Then I see this thread and fear i should have started today!

    Phew...

How do you manually lower your ftp?

Open the workout and there are up and down arrows to adjust % intensity or do it in PROFILE tab of the app

    Great effort. 8)

First time with this workout(downloaded last night using my superfast broadband it only took 14 hrs!)
I turned it down to 95% from the start and was still surprised how tough it was. There is NO WAY i would have worked that hard using PE.
Nice to see some female pro footage tho'

Now done 4 TR workouts on the bounce, i was going to rest today ready for tomorrows start, but seeing as we've got some timing leeway, keep going while i can. :D

Well done chaps just did mine...

    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/175801

second interval got a bit ragged. I think I must have been at ~ 95% all the way through as I dropped my FTP a little due to lack of training and xmas excess. That was HARD and I ran out of water...

Awaiting Christmas Island to tick over to 'Sunday' and then The Hunted.
Should be able to cope with no reduction in intensity and will spin out for a warm up for 30 or so minutes prior.
I did this yesterday and it helped.... but I didnt let the things go much above 50% of FTP, so very much recovery zone... just enough to the blood flowing.
I have now hit my Target 1 weight of 169lbs as of this morning.

    Stage 1 complete for me:

    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/176791

Did at 95%, first time I have done HHNF, good fun but ouch!

My Soni style curry house pre-race meal last night was not the best idea, I was sweating out lamb madras after 20 minutes, I think it is time for a shower!

Bring on the hunted, good luck all.

As far as I was concerned, I had done enough leading out on the final run in.

884 riders taking part 309 completed 1st stage- 20 hrs to go.(at time of posting) Be interesting to see how many we lose each day.

Turned it down to 90% (this is really day 5 for me) Still felt bad about doing it tho'
    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/177017

Had a bit of drama at the end of the second(main) interval, the bike started to rock and i noticed my skewer had come open. Leapt off and managed to get it sorted before TR had time to pause so no harm done i suppose.I did actually put a bit of extra effort in to that rest period to ensure i "got back on" :D

That's stage 1 complete for me. First time I've done HHNF and I found it tough!!!
Having done a couple of Sufferfests before, I decided to set the effort at 90%. I think I'd have struggled with it any higher. Looking at some of the completed rides on the website, it looks to me as if people may have changed their FTPs to lower values - there are quite a lot of really low ones! (I don't mean the ones posted here on the forum).
    Only eight to go.....

    Cheers,

Boardman Road Comp - OK, I went to Halfords
Tibia plateau fracture - the rehab continues!

    :D

Got the problem sorted. Removed and reattached the usb receiver and hey presto!

But, just like Lances last tour where everything that could go wrong DID go wrong i ended up with a slow puncture in the rear wheel. Only really noticed about 35 minutes in, so had to get off and pump it up! and then again later so i am sure it affected my effort but just glad to get it done.

New inner tube in tomorrow and all will be checked in good time for stage 2 :)

Well done to all embarking on this voyage of discovery of pain!

Did ride 2 this morning...had to give up any hope of that last night. Cadence sensor went weird for about 20s and I got distracted during one of the intervals with a maths homework question...

    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/179355

Still pleased to get it done, I might try and do the next two this evening to get back ahead while it is still the weekend.

Already 199 drop outs (signed up but did not do the first stage. I reckon there will be quite a few more tomorrow

    Good luck all.

    201 DNS now.

First one of the day -Extra shothttp://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/179328 @90%

    Second- Fight club http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/179329 @90%
Fight club started really easy and i thought i'd made a mistake turning it down. Dont worry it gets harder.

Looking forward to seeing some DNF's tomorrow.

Legs are getting pretty tired. :D

    Come on folks dig in.

Well doing Extra Shot / FC Stage 3 in a few minutes .. then there will be a break of 10 .. 15 minutes before I can kick off Fight Club... also doing this 'offline' and will connect workout laptop to the net later on to synch.
If this upsets Grnterer... well he can shove a Sufferlandrian pig knuckleov up where the sun dont shine.

Just made it through stage 2.

I have been pretty hungover today so wasn't sure how this would go so I added a sick bucket to my bicycle torture chamber just in case - thankfully didn't need it :)

Well the problem I described earlier has returned.I start everything up check through and load up The Hunted And click to start and nothing. Uninstalled and reinstalled USB stick and the TR software but all to no avail. I really am gutted. Occasionally I can see the workout minimised and if I right click and maximise it seems to enlarge to fill the screen but does not.Its like a flicker across the screen. I suspect its PC related but doesn't explain why sometimes works and not.

    Stage 3 done.
Cumulative training stress on my GCpm chart isnt particularly high especially compared to a lot more mid November.... but .. I can feel it in me legs though.
Will try for an early Stage 4 tomorrow then a 36 hour respite if poss.

@bobinski - can you do the workout without the video drop in?
