Dave Anderson 953 - Completed!

Hello all,
Thought I would start a thread now that the frame is nearing completion. I've been waiting my turn for some time now, so I'm pretty excited now it's coming to fruition. It's designed around what Dave calls a "4 seasons" frame, in that it's intended to be used year round, So it has clearance for mudguards and rack mounts on the rear. It's a traditional lugged frame, with a 953 fork. Frame design below:
I've been getting regular updates over the last few weeks and I'm amazed at the amount of work that's gone into the frame. Here's a few 'build' photos:
And, some of the polishing. The frame will have polished lugs, brushed stays and fork blades, with painted panels, top tube and head tube.

This is how all frames should look like... colour scheme? How are you going to dress it? Athena? You're not fitting a set of Ksyrium on this, are you?left the forum March 20230

The paint scheme will be similar to this one, but with the brushed fork. I'm substituting the black for quite a bright green, and the highlights will be orange. White/cream panels as here.
Still undecided on the group. I've got Athena and record on other bikes, so I might have to try both0 -
Oh, and wheels are Archetype/cx ray/R45's

Look of it so far, I'd deny the paint and leave it shiney.

Really very very nice
The bare metal look was fashionable 15 years ago, when titanium frames were a novelty, now it just looks plain and dull... let's move on from those dark days, shall we?left the forum March 20230 -
True but so many paint jobs on production bikes are so sh!t and dull that it makes bare metal look great. Choosing paint is one of the positives of going custom IMO (even though it's only aesthetics).
I'm have a massive dislike of the coloured 'go faster' dashes/stripes you get on the majority of big brand bikes. I'd get my own bike re-painted if i could justify/afford the cost.
I love the paint these people do, especially this bike:

This build looks very nice btw.0 -
I do like a bit of colour. The brushed stays are practical as that is where the paint always wears first (as well as declaring to the world that yes, this is a stainless steel bike!)

Lovely, but what I don't get is why this lug is polished before the seat stays are fitted? I can't see how they can be attached to the lug anyway??? Is it a camera trick?Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
I think he does the bulk of the polishing first as it is a lot more difficult once the seatstays are attached. He will repolish once the frame is complete.
It will look like this once finished

Saddle and bar tape have arrived. It's a Specialized Romin, recovered in leather with a green underlay to match the paint on the frame. Very happy with these

Nice attention to the details!Likewise, i look forward to seeing the finished article

Hopefully there'll be some more pics coming tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll post a few more detail shots to help illustrate his attention to detail:
seat tube/top tube mitres
Cleaning up of the lugs prior to brazing. At this point, Dave has already worked on them to 'slim' them down to a more svelt shape.
Drilling the plugs on the rear dropouts to shed a few grams

I can't wait to see the finished bike, does make me rather jealous though0

Personally I'm not a fan of brazing and lugs on a 953, but those highly polished lugs do look amazing. Quite interesting for me to see this more "traditional" 953 build compared to my Rourke.
