Not taking in Jan and asking for a discount?
Nope, decided I preferred a 19 plate - which is pretty much the same thing from a residual value point of view. Also gives me something to look forward to through the winter months :)

Not doing the private plate thing: MRB 1 G or similar? Does it affect the value that much?

Apparently it can make a few hundred quid difference come sale time. Anyhow, I'd already bagged a chunky discount, maybe dealers were getting nervy with Brexit approaching?

I wouldn't have a private plate myself, although in any event LE55 TAX isn't available. Nor for that matter is W4 NKR before anyone suggests it :)

Furry Nuff. Didn’t know, not having bought a new car. So you are keeping it low key, Q car style? Always fun at lights with some spotty dicckhead in a Vauxhall (and you may have already said: estate or saloon - I forgot)

eh there la, its a fookin' tip.

ended up in some awful council estate so went to the pub and was served by smackie Annie with a neck of love bites. Awful but good people watching.

Bear in mind I spent a fewyears in and out of Bootle so I'm not unfamiliar to the city.

Am now home drinking Beaujolais so all good.

TBH I haven't bought a new car in quite a while. It's less of a difference now the plates change twice a year but may as well wait a few weeks and avoid a bit more of the cold greasy roads, especially while I'm getting used to driving it.

Estate - so it's relatively 'sleeper' style visually unless you're looking closely, but the noise might be a bit of a give away for potential spotty victims.

Well now you mention it MF, that would be a great way to run it in and get a few miles on the clock. And there's room in the back for both.

Getting the worlds only genuine, real Black Friday bargain (which, I do feel bad about succumbing to but, in my defence, it was something I'd been planning on buying for ages and saving over £300 on something that isn't generally discounted heavily was an opportunity it would have been really stupid to miss).

Will it be the first of March before you get this years car -- ?
I could have it late Jan but decided to wait a few weeks.

It's the newly 'facelifted' version so fortunately won't be outdated by time I get it.

Yeah, it would be terrible if the plastic on the front was an ever so slightly randomly different shape to the latest shape! People would just point and laugh; think of the shame!.....

I'll be going too fast for anyone for anyone to notice anything like that  I was more interested in getting the new close ratio 'box and some natty in car tech to satisfy the 'boys toys' needs :)

I'd suggest Seeing Machines DMS. As used in Cadillacs and by the RAAF.

    A well fettled bike.

Both front and rear mech weren't shifting so smoothly last week and I arrived home on Thurs to my rear mudguard hanging off.

Good clean, few turns on barrel adjusters and mudguard replaced made a massive difference to the ride in this morning.

Just need to find a replacement bolt so I can replace front mudguard with slightly bigger model to avoid rubbing and jobs a good'un.

Err, closer ratios :) Plus two extra gears and quicker shifts etc. Will make a difference for 'spirited' driving. And launch control for traffic light getaways :P

Then it should be a "close-ER" ratio box! The need for two extra gears might imply a shortage of torque though . I prefer the approach of my Saab - wait until 30 seconds before you need it, bang it into third, floor the accelerator and wait for the turbo to spool up. If you get it just right you don't hit the big truck head on at a closing speed of 120mph. The launch control sounds like a bit of a laugh (better than the "sport mode" button in an Astra I tried out - as far as I could tell, all that happened when you pressed the sport mode button was that the little orange light in the button switched on).

Shouldn't need gearboxes in cars -- it's 2018 ffs gearboxes should be consigned to history.

No concerns about torque, it's more the potential bills for rear tyres  I think modern turbos don't work on geological timescales like the old skool versions.

Launch control should be fun, apparently you press a button, keep your foot on the brake, floor the throttle and then take your foot off the brake and hang on for dear life :D
