An advert in the window of a cafe I'm stopped at right now " reliable staff required " wonder what the last employee to leave thinks about that. Makes me think he/she was a lazy Dosser.

It was teasing all the way home. You could see the dark wisps hanging off the clouds in the distance, but just little flurries of big fat droplets, and the smell of hot damp earth. Then just as I got home a proper shower set in for a good half an hour.

That the sparrow which whanged into the window pane did not break its neck. Picked it up, clearly dazed, set it on a wall just in case any of the myriad neighbourhood cats happened by and a few minutes later it flew off, in the other direction this time.

If your windows are too clean, bird strike is more likely.

Seeing more and more people cramming themselves onto a delayed train when the next train is due in 5 minutes causing it to be unable to leave the station, opting to be patient and wait then being rewarded as you leaving on the less congested train whilst they are still at the platform.

Going out on ride today with some trepidation - have had a slight chest infection type thingie this week - head out, see how it goes, can always cut it short. Then get the 100k in, no fuss, no bother. Happy days.

This reminds me of an incident when I was a mature student in a college which I perpetually am by the nature of the ever changing technology I work with. But this day me and two work mates were walking out of a classroom 3 abreast down the corridor.

The chap in the middle ( Melvin ) started a narration while looking down at the floor about the electronics we were studying which ended in a question addressed to us. Meanwhile the other chap ( Chris ) and I had noticed the torso of a girl through the window of gym at the end of the corridor skipping in side profile to us while Melvin talked. Chris and I glanced at each other and smiled.

Then as we turned the corner Chris just turned to Melvin and said " Melvin, your going to have to say that all again"

Move into a house with real leaded windows; that will fix her. Each casement/toplight pair adds up to about 70 panes of glass. I reckon that means I have about 1330 panes of glass x 2 for each side = 2660 windows to clean. I haven't cleaned them in 15 years. After a fairly short while they don't get much worse!

I spent the afternoon teaching 11-16 year olds how to skateboard, in a park that I helped to get redeveloped* and - despite only being able to do two afternoons (of 9) on the scheme that the local authority put on for these kids - getting voted the top activity.

*11-16 year olds are amazing when they're properly motivated. Two years ago there was a ramshackle unskateable metal park with used needles and drinks cans everywhere. Now there's an immaculate concrete park that's properly looked after and the kids helped generate the petition showing the interest in it, design it, raise funds for it and now take care of it. All I did was point them in the right direction. I don't know why I'm surprised, I coached youth football for years and had to explain to parents how different their children were when they were properly engaged with something.

I feel for you; it must be expensive and tedious doing all that moving stuff. I bought one house and it was the one I wanted in the area I wanted and it still is. Not moving house cheers me up.

But without them, against whom would you define yourself? :) You can't be middle class if you're not in the middle.
