Oh, so you are a `bulb puller` too. They've not found my missing (taped over) bulb yet.

Italian electrics, circa 1989. I had an Alfa which had brake pad wear sensors in it, to a light on the dash. In theory, when the pad wore through enough the two contacts in the sensor would touch the disc itself and complete the circuit, triggering the light.

I bought replacement pads which did not have the slot for the sensor. No problem I thought, just make sure it's taped out of the way and it will be permanently open circuit.

    Nope, light on.

Maybe damaged sensor I thought, so I clipped the contact block off, split the wires and made sure the ends were insulated.

    Light still on.

    Feckit.

Removed light bulb from dash. Fixed.

Most are a closed loop system.
I did a pad sensor delete on the 944 - I figured I was the brake pad sensor: I can see if they are worn and sensors are silly money now. Also, pads with sensor apertures are more expensive than without.
You need to join the pad sensor wires to close the loop.
When the circuit is broken, the light comes on.

I tried shorting the wires together as well. Didn't fix it.

Presumably a broken/dodgy/rusty connection somewhere else in the loom, coincidentally at the time the pads were getting worn I think and given it was Italian I figured it might be more trouble to find and fix than I could be bothered with.

The brake warning light is often run in parallel with brake fluid reservoir warning light and handbrake warning light. Which is logical. So unfortunately, you have to test each part of that circuit.

    Yes, Alfa's were notorious.

By the time you'd have fixed it, the car would have disintegrated into a rust pile anyway.

W202 is for sale soon. I am awaiting a Throttle body (worn potentiometer). Need to sort vacuum for door locking system and alarm. Done the head liner - that was a job and a half.

The 944 is waiting for welder bloke but I asked him to put it on hold whilst I sort the W202 then it's ABS pump out and source a 190e one for parts, then MOT! That will be the end of a 2 year renovation, bar body work but it ain't me doing that.

Just serviced the 997. Need to sort a few rattles. I hate rattles. but apart from that and needing a good clean, it's peachy.

I bet you weren't expecting that.

Then, do I sell the 944 and buy a nice E30 Bee Em or a W202 AMG?
The bottom has fallen out of the market for certain marques.

Milan San Remo being won on a bike with a dropper post.
Now I could care less for adding a dropper post to my road bike, but…
Could this mean more bikes with standard round seat tubes returning?
Unlikely but I hope so. Hate the proprietary parts nonsense that has become the norm.
I don’t mind things evolving but built in obsolescence is a f’ing con.

Aero dropper posts is the antithesis of my wish but surely that’s a niche market too far.

One dropper post is not going to (re) standardise, BB's, stems, headset bearing sizes, the myriad of disc brake set ups...
    Unfortunately.

You could. But you wouldn’t. Dropper posts are most useful on mountain bikes, particularly in steep terrain."

You do wonder if it’ll get banned.

I don’t see why it should though. They’re a widely available part.
