I think the maths and science involved in landing 3 tall narrow tubes upright from falling to earth at very high velocity is simply staggering.

However, given that the footage from the drone ship is lost at the critical moment, the third landing does seem rather like a bad magicians act. Doubtless, the conspiracy theorists will love that.

    Amazing stuff.
I always thought that getting them up in a straight-ish line without crashing or veering off randomly was enough of a feat, never mind landing them again.
It's a good point. We take it for granted these days but the early footage of rocket testing proves it's far from straight forward. Heck, there are even failures today with proven launch systems.

the science and the maths is the easy bit, its just using Newtons third law of motion :) its the engineering & technology to get all of that to work in real time and handle dynamic changes that is staggering, I dont know how many calculations the on board systems need to make to cope with landing when a sudden gust of wind, or on the drone ship just a rogue wave, could lead to a rapid uncommanded disassembly, but I bet its a lot.

I just hope it inspires more kids of today into STEM subjects or careers, and they dont take it for granted as it can all look like just a video game

The scowl I got from some Eco-hippies on the climate change protest blocking Waterloo Bridge earlier this evening. I navigated carefully past on my bike and cheerfully pointed out to of a couple of them what a lovely cold day it was.

Their expressions said otherwise :) Think they needed a sense of humour implant, unsurprisingly.

Working in London today , I had opportunity to converse with a couple of the cheerless twats, particularly about the ones who glued themselves to the DLR
They said it was important to make a statement about transport
“How did you get here this week?”
    Silence
    “Yeah, thought so!”
    To my departing van..
    “C*NT!”

well, we suppose that was down to you having put your address on the delivery thing as opposed to some other random address like that bloke a few weeks ago on here.

I did take that precaution, yes. I'm still pleasantly surprised when something ordered online turns up promptly, is actually what I ordered, and it hasn't been kicked to death by Parcelfarce. It pays to have such low expectations...

Getting a free MOT for my truck in Halfords. Got a voucher code last summer after buying something inexpensive like chain degreaser or the like, def less than £10. Thought there must be a catch, but nope, all sweet. The guys in the Autocentre said I'd been ripped off spending a tenner, could have got a voucher buying a 29p bottle of water. Doubt Halfords will rerun that particular incentivisation scheme.

Watching mortar bees getting it on. Never seen this behaviour before. Stone wall, lime mortar, warmed in the sunshine. A female sitting at the entrance to a newly dug hole, fanning her wings, several males visiting her for a bit of you know. Nice way to spend yesterday's lunchbreak. Plus not my wall being excavated.
