No different to the paywall used by many media businesses to access content.

The difference is that for social media platforms, the user data are the product they are supposed to be monetising. That's the quid pro quo. So charging people to generate it is probably going to be the end of Twitter.

Something else will pop up if that happens. Perhaps everyone will shift to Telegram or Truth Social.

Except that the type of quality media that can afford restrict access yet still get new subscribers is different from Twitter, in that Twitter relies on people contributing at no cost to Twitter, and on mass contribution and distribution, in order to get advertising reach. Users know it's 99% shït, but you tolerate (and learn to filter) it for the useful stuff. People are only willing to pay a subsciption if the quality-to-shït ratio is high, and even then it's quite a tough sell. Twitter is nowhere near that.

    No it is not.

    Not what pray tell?

    Not nerdy or not trivial?

Posting this here for someone else as they posted in the wrong thread. (I’m having to paraphrase a bit)

Adam Blythe is talking bolls…. He keeps saying Cav is the most successful TDF rider…. But he’s not.

How long it takes to wrap up an online chat with a company if you're trying not to be a d1ck by just closing it as soon as they've done what you need.

Road.cc have an article about a saddle that says the short nose helps you to put the power down.

They single handedly spread every technobabbly bit of bolicks known to the world of cycling.

Why do I keep going there? It's not near miss of the day, that's for sure.

I know what they mean about the short saddle FYI.

I just transitioned from a mid 00s long saddle to a short one, probably the one they reviewed and if i was reviewing it I'd have said something similar.

I'm sat in an airport departure lounge, there are vending machines but no bar once through passport control. There is a glass wall at the back of the bar before passports, so we can see them working, but can't order anything 🤬
They only announced the delay after we'd gone through of course.

This ^ and they could have reversed the image around in the same way (for some inexplicable reason).

And he leaves the rider with an extra wheel to then carry!

The DPF on my car. Effectively by trying to drive the car economically it makes the car work worse!

Walk down town to get a haircut yesterday, barber shut on a Thursday. Oh forgot. Open from 9 on a Friday.
Walk down town to get a haircut today, barber shop shut. Scribbled note saying will open 1130. That scribble wasn't there yesterday.
Attempt #3 coming soon. What's the chances?

Depends when he next goes. If he goes next Thursday I’d say chances are 0%. (Tho tbf ‘soon’ suggests the next attempt will be sooner than another 6 days)

The 3rd attempt was just before 12, 2 guys standing outside, barber's still closed. Is just a little side street place. Neighbour woman was going in her door, commented along lines of 'who knows if he'll open'. Xxxx it. 0/3.

Only tried there as couldn't visit preferred Turkish barber over in the big town earlier this week due to bus timings. Revert to self trim again. Yes trivial. And yes annoying.

bike computer GPS was playing up, so I restarted it just before I did a stretch which I was targeting on strava to sort it out (spotted it'd be a tailwind).

Smashed it, 3rd overall all time on the segment, but now the ride looks like it is all over the place, so anyone looking will think it's a GPS mistake and not my riding :(

Knock and a neighbour with a completely rusted up child’s scooter “ Have you any wd40 or something I can borrow to get this working”
My thoughts were you need to chuck that in skip and no you can f*ck off but in the interests of keeping the peace. Here’s my muck off spray.

You should be fine, If you’d taken the crown it would have been flagged in seconds though.

....more like. Think it's the only basic, stripey pole outside type barber's in town. There are other 'hair salons' but I'm not paying £+ for a "number 3 all over please".

OK, as a means to block content from the plebs it's the same as a paywall, but obviously there is no charged subscription. You are supposed to be interested enough to want to sign up to the platform completely free, as they want to monetise your data. There is quite bit of online content that is fully restricted in the same way or, like Roadcc mentioned somewhere above in this thread, has a limited viewing to entice you, either letting you get so far through the article or giving you X views per month.

#3 all over? Do it yourself.
Would annoy me to pay for something so trivial. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.
