Will he even beat his own PB never mind a world record considering he got that 11 years ago and retired 5 years ago.

Could be interesting if the doped athletes perform at a lower level than the elites.
Magnusson was a tidy swimmer back in the day, but he last competed 6 years ago and the WR is a fair bit faster than he swam at his peak 12 years ago. He'll need some good gear!

Paging Dan Roan, where are you Dan?

Because of a mechanical though.

If you like irony, the men's 100 free WR (Magnusson's target) was broken yesterday by a Chinese swimmer widely suspected - by dint of being Chinese - of being a PED user.

NFL showing they're taking PEDs very seriously indeed

Wow, he really must has upset someone.

I think with Pogba, you're coming at it from the wrong end. Who hasn't he upset?

A footballer getting a 4 year ban is almost unheard of. A footballer getting any doping ban is very rare.

CAS choose to look the other way wrt Haley's use of a blood booster together with abnormalities in her blood passport. Strict liability for substances found seemingly do not apply.
Joke of a sport: nothing to see there.

CAS accepted that she had taken a contaminated supplement, which is an inadvertent ingestion offence and for which there is precedence for a reduction in the length of a ban. I think the CAS panel have made clear their doubts about the original conviction and Halep provided evidence to cast doubt on the biological passport-based ban.
I don't think due process is a joke, personally.

Agreed, strict liability is fine but if an athlete can prove they've done everything reasonable to check their supplements and are able to prove to the required level that it was contaminated I'm not sure a 4 year ban is justifiable.

Wada accept a "contamination" excuse after 20 Chinese swimmers test positive for heart drugs in the lead up to the Tokyo Olympics

So it's gradually gone over time from :
- strict liability - guilty and full punishment
to
- strict liability - guilty, but reduced punishment
to
- no liability at all - 'we can't disprove the possibility that it wasn't intentional'
All a bit pointless now

But remember Lance Armstrong. Just because cycling hasn't had a big doping scandal for over a decade, they are still the bad guys. If in doubt, ask cycling journalists. While they turned a blind eye during the Armstrong era as he brought the money in, they are really trustworthy in their unsubstantiated doubt in the 'Sky Era'. At least they can relax that no-one is dominating like Sky used to (the new people look good on bikes)

My dad has just started taking EPO (they're all at it!). I have a marathon on Sunday and desperately want a PB - it's tempting!

sigh Is this what the 80s olympics were like? I have some vague recollection of stories of Soviet athletes, especially women, just doing ridiculous performances.

East German shot putters come to mind. Scarier than a very scary womens hockey team!

Czech Kratochvilova still holds the 800m world record for 'ladies' from 1983. Apparently it's all down to vitamin B12 injections.
The only people to come within a second are Semenya and a Kenyan.

Florence Griffith-Joyner still holds the women's 100 metre record, set in 1988.
It wasn't just the Soviet bloc who benefitted from doping.

Agree, the '88 men's 100m Olympic final was so doped a cycling journalist was moved to write a book about it.

No, Jonathan was assisted by a higher power🙏

Flo-Jo's record was wind assisted as well.

IIRC Jonathan's was a tailwind just within the rules too.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0
