Roxadustat is an anti-anemia medication that stimulates the production of red blood cells.wallace_and_gromit said:Simona Halep (ex-Wimbledon champ and world #1) banned for 4 years for use of roxadustat (whatever that is) and irregularities in her biological passport. It's taken 10 months to get this far, presumably due to the biological passport angle which needs inputs from experts in the determination. But according to Simona, it's all OK as she's tested negative repeatedly since her original test failure!

The Paul Pogba story hasn't garnered much attention. He would be the highest profile footballer to get a ban.
For every other sport it would be 4 years. I strongly suspect it will somehow turn out to be less, because football.0 -
Tennis may brush doping under the carpet but when they do catch someone they seem to hit then hard.0

Technically it could be treated as two separate offences, the positive test for roxadustat and the biological passport anomalies, in which case 4 years is very lenient.gsk82 said:
Isn't 4 years the standard wada ban now?Pross said:Tennis may brush doping under the carpet but when they do catch someone they seem to hit then hard.

I know it is the reason for this thread, but the difference in the ratio of doping/other press coverage for 'mainstream' sports compared with cycling is astonishing.0

There's been a few comments in the media about how the process has been too long (I guess the bio passport analysis took a while) but the general view appears to be that it was a fair cop and she's been duly sanctioned.shinyhelmut said:

As she's early 30s already, even a four year ban is effectively the end. Having won more prize money than all but the Williams ($40m) she'll doubtless muddle through.0 -

A more happy story.
An MMA fighter has to pull out of a fight at the last minute and is suspended for a minimum of nine months after testing positive for a baby

No mention of the fact this is the same Juventus that doped Zidane in the past. I was thinking some club up to their old tricks again. That seems to have been missed on all the articles ive read about this.gweeds said:

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I mean, how do they even think that would be a valid reason even if in some bizarre world it was true? Considering that putting it forward as a defence would mean you knew it had happened and it's the athletes responsibility to ensure they don't get any illegal substances contaminating them it is still basically an admission of guilt.

Looks like the "Enhanced Games" will be going ahead later in the year. A "no drug testing free for all".
Going to guess you have to sign a waiver that if your heart explodes its not the organisers fault...
