First ride out on the winter bike. Very wet and miserable but satisfying. Just about to give her a quick hose down to get the grime off.

Even though she's white, she a dirty girl at heart.

Am I the only person who doesn't EVER bother cleaning their winter bike? Not cleaned mine since April... Although it is a SS.
  • Had it's first run out yesterday just it time judging by all the mud on the roads.10627928626_8a1a4ae60d_b.jpg

Ooh, nice GF in your sig Thommo - on the list for when the T2 dies...if it ever does! How do get on with that Ribble? I'm thinking of putting one together for the Wife - she has decreed that a winter bike is required.

    Cheers

Ignore the saddle - it is comfy.

Gruppo: Record Carbon 10 - far too good for a winter bike but it will be a donor to a new build...eventually.

Wheels are Dura Ace 1380's, again too good but I try to keep it all squeeky clean.

    Dude

    Someone's nicked your house.
  • Here's mine, Currently my all year bike, but with Crud Road Race II mudguards fitted, knog Blinder 2 front/rear lights at night and fitted some fulcrum racing Quattro's (Carbons saved for better weather).

Hope to add a BMC Impec or dogma next year so this would be the full time winter setup, hope you like:

  • Hope to be picking it up Saturday when the C2W voucher comes in. Reduced to clear as they have stopped making them now.

This will be the bike for when it's a bit too iffy for the best bike and not bad enough for the CX commuter. At least that's what I told the CFO.

Your T2 will never die, so you'd best just go and buy the Ti anyway
It will be with great reluctance that I get back on the Ribble as I love riding my Ti, but the roads are soo shitty round here now that it has to be done, if only to prolong the new ultegra chainset! However, I do find the ribble a really stable bike when its wet and mucky due to its frame geometry and weight and can't recommend them enough, although I'd consider a TK3 if I were to buy another winter bike albeit slightly more expensive than the ribble.

Thanks for that, sounds like the Ribble + Veloce should be spot on for her. Roadwise it's a bit "rural" round here to say the least, hence she wants to leave her Kuota Kharma on the TT until Spring - can't blame her really.

Here's my newly completed Winter/Commuter bike.

It's a Croix de Fer that was bought through the classifieds on here. Running Open Pros on Hope Pro II hubs, once again from the classifieds. The rest is a mix of parts from the parts shelf in the garage so it's a mix of 105 5600/5700 with a bit of Ultegra 6600 thrown in. My only real indulgence was the brakes, I have gone for some TRP HY/RDs, and I have to say I am quite impressed, especially in the pouring rain.

Just waiting for some long drop brakes to arrive (previous long drops done seem to be long enough which is odd??) then its ready to rip!

  • Just posted about my Ribble and mention my winter bike, so though I would put on this thread. Bought back in the late eighties from Geoff Francis in Doncaster and was my first proper road bike. Bit of a Frankenstein bike as was stored in parts in my garage for several years so when I rebuilt it I needed a new fork (took some finding), stem, seat post, brakes, brake levers, saddle & bottom bracket. Wheels are Mavic MA1 rims, to many spokes to count these where built by Geoff & bought as an upgrade many years ago but bike still has original handle bars, cranks & gears.

    IMG_0123_zps9277d559.jpg

Just fitted some mudguards, never used before but for winter riding are a must. Frame about as stiff as liquorice lace but not an issue as only used for general winter riding. The one change I want to make though is I do not like the down tube shifters, if I can find some cheap Campag Ergo shifters I will change.

Thought I'd best post a pic of mine. Like it so much I sold my R3! (Although that has now been replaced)
Ribble winter with Athena and Khamsins. If I road race next year it'll be on this with Wheelsmith tubs.
    Pic from my ride today-

Also posted in the 'Cross' section - my new Lapierre cross. An excellent winter trainer, comfortable and robust, its the only one of my bikes to have that Japanese groupset stuff (I like my Campag :D ). It makes riding in the crap weather a real joy !!

It's a great bike and rides extremely well, so much so that I might even do a couple of races on it next season.

    My winter bike:

    look_zps4b3264c5.jpg

On wet days it's got a clip-on rear fender. But to be fair, I don't ride it much in the UK outdoors.

Just got broadsided by a car on that lovely winter bike. I took brunt of hit but front end was a bit twisted. We'll see how it is in the morning.
