Ide Hill, just south of Westerham/Sevenoaks. That church is the highest one in Kent apparently!

Columbus Zona fillet brazed frame, Columbus Hiver fork, 105, Fulcrum 5 wheels.

That looks very nice. Did you make the frame? Bloody good effort if you did

Cheers :) I made the frame late last year, had it powder coated a few weeks ago. Gave it a proper 70 mile thrash yesterday with a group of mates - it doesn't look quite so clean any more. Very pleased with the way it rides.

    My new winter stead,

2012 Sabbath Silk Road, purchased as new Old Stock in December last year. Full Tiagra runninggear that I was going to swap for an Ultegra set I have at home but really cant be bothered at the moment.

It was quite a circuitous route. I did a course, then another course specifically tailored to fillet brazing, then got lucky and was offered some shared workshop space. I've invested quite a lot in tools, BikeCAD (for designs) and now build one day a week.

I would say the most straightforward way to build one would be to attend the Bicycle Academy classic course, then follow up with the build your own frame course.

Its also used as a commuter for 27miles each way so has the waterproof stuffed in there as well as the tubes etc.

This has been my winter bike for the last couple of years. I've done around 6.2k miles on it so far. I bought the frameset new for £150 and fitted and replaced components until it ended up like this.

    nmc6.jpg

Frameset: Trek 1.5 2011 56cm - matte black Trek Alapha aluminium with carbon fork and Cane Creek EC headset
Wheelset: Ambrosio Evolution rims/105 hubs/ACI spokes
Tyres: Continental Grand Prix 4000s 23mm
    Mudguards: SKS Longboard 35mm
    Seatpost: Bontrager carbon 27.2mm
    Saddle: Selle Italia C2 Gel
    Handlebars: Bontrager Race VR 42cm
    Stem: Bontrager Race Light 100mm
    Shift/Brake Levers: Shimano 105 5700 Silver
Rear Derailleur: Shimano 105 5701 Silver
Front Derailleur: Shimano 105 5700 Silver
    Chainset: Shimano Tiagra 4600 50/34 172.5mm
Bottom Bracket: Shimano Ultegra 6700 HTII
    Chain: Shimano 105 5701
    Cassette: Shimano 105 5700 12-27
    Pedals: Look Keo Classic
Brake Calipers: Shimano BR-R450 long reach
    Brake Pads: XLC BSX01T
Bottle Cages: Elite Custom Race matte black
    Bar Tape: Bontrager Gel
    Cables: Shimano

Not very exciting, but it's a nice bike to ride in the wet. Weight is around 10kg.

Crankset changed to Claris compact, gets me to work no matter what the weather, rides pretty decently now after the budget wheel upgrade and much easier on the hills thanks to the compact gearing.

Well thank you. I guess the long guards, straight tubes and plain wheels make it look kind of old fashioned.

That's a good, honest winter bike build.
Might try and get a similar frame for next winter as my current winter Giant SCR3 frame is 7 years old and (like me) has seen better days,

Nice, love the touches of pink. Discs are the way to go for a winter bike, but are you going to fit mudguards? Is that the brake track showing on the Archetypes or a reflective strip on the tyres?

I started my 2013 season late and rode it in everything from road races, TTs,club runs and sportives. Can only fault two things. R501 wheels are tripe and it's a bit heavy

Didn't stop me from buying the Vitesse later on last year though, £1300 worth of carbon/ultegra bargain
