Rapha stuff is pretty good quality. I don't personally think it's so good that I'll pay the standard price, but I pick up items now and again in the sales and the tops are comfortable and hard wearing.

Hopefully it will mean more attractive designs. I don't think I've like any of the Sky Adidas stuff, whereas the Rapha Condor Sharp kit looks very impressive and is one of my most fav jersey designs, although hellishly expensive. Possibly it will also mean an 'off the bike' dual branded wear?

Would have like them to have teamed up with 'Shutt' though. A British company with quality and style.

The Adidas kit was overpriced anyway so not a lot will change i'm guessing...

Fantastic..most amazing thread I've seen on here for sometime....started off as prorace then turned into a pseudo forum for a battle between the qvc channel and self ridges catalogue brigade. As the missus just pointed out when I told her about Rapha and Sky....that'll be some nice kit....but none of it will fit you ha ha ha. Personally I never buy any current pro kit.....mostly because I ain't one and whilst I ride ok ...will never ride like one. But.....does this mean Addidas prices will drop......especially for the kids jerseys ( I have 3 girls who want one) and whilst the quality may not be Rapha like...it means that it will now be retro chic ... Or do I have to wait 40 years for that....I'm going to look at the Grattan catalogue now :D

Rapha clothing is sh*t. Its the typical clothing company bull with high prices for what is basic cloth marketed as classic design and people fall for it.

Team Sky using them is a disaster, everything will be black, white logo and a white line underneath and will be sold as " clean, sophisticaed design"...at twice the price of the Adidas kit. Its a backwards move on Skys part, its like Apple computers using PC World to design their products.

Also the Rapha sizes are appaling. A lot of riders i see are stocky guys, middle aged with money and yet the biggest size Rapha do is XXL which is a 45 inch chest. So that rules out three quarters of potential buyers then.

    Worst decision ever Brailsford.
with all due respect that's rubbish.

Rapha put in more way more R&D than the equivalent cheaper brands and it shows in the price. You pay for stylish genuine quality. If you don't like it don't buy it but stop spouting ill-informed rubbish

    Or you'll do what?
Exactly, nothing, you're just another over opinionated t0sser on here, with his head up his ars*.

dunno - might go and spend a small fortune on some quality cycling clothing - why such vitirol over a brand?

No. You've got that the wrong way round, its like PC World using Apple to design their products.

If there's one thing Rapha have its great design.

As for massive sizes for fatter people who want to wear team kits, Im sure that if the market is there (which it would be) then they'll make it. At the moment they dont make their own stuff in such large sizes as there would be such a small market for it.

(Oh, and I don't buy Rapha or Assos or anything like that, on the basis it doesn't do any more for me than the brands sitting just below them).

I hope they ditch the white armband. It looks shit
  • Mr T - visit the adidas factory shop (Stockport) or any of the adidas outlet shops - original sky shirt £20 (I can afford that), Mk2 shirts £30. Maybe the mk 3 shirts will be in there soon
  • Living on the Manchester side of the Peak District we often see a lot of pro riders out and about; walking down to the village tonight a Sky rider passed me. Didn't recognise the rider, looking on the team gallery it might have been Kanstantsin Siutsou. He was wearing a very different Sky kit. Black, sky blue 'SKY' but in a font a little like the 'N' of the New Balance logo.No blue horizontal stripe, plain black front withjust 'Sky' in blue. Looked like a gilet, long sleeve jersey on with solid white line replacing the adidas white stripes. All black back with the blue line. Could this be the new Rapha kit? Also all black Pinnarello, bit like Cav's.

Reading this back I sound like a train spotter.

If so it's the standard Adidas team issue gilet.
  • From the rapha website, not unsurprisingly it is both high end and 'fan wear'. Good luck to them they have built a brand from scratch and surely this must have been a sought after deal, amazed it's not gone to Nike or somesuch.

Still think the Rapha kit is generally dangerously dark though, black is not a good colour for a cycling jesey unless you are competing in an illegal road event or TT back in the 50's.

'As part of the four-year agreement, Rapha will develop a full collection of top-end, high-performance racing and training kit and off-bike dress for both riders and staff. The Rapha offering will also extend to the best selection of riding and fan wear for supporters of Team Sky.

Simon Mottram, Founder and Chief Executive of Rapha says:

“We are delighted that, after only eight years as a business, we have been chosen by Team Sky, the world’s number one team, as their partner. We share their passion for performance and team ethic and are enthusiastic to inspire and engage a wider fan base around the globe.”

Dave Brailsford, Team Principal of Sky Pro Cycling, says:

“Team Sky has achieved this year’s level of success because of a strong and steady vision to find improvement at every level to help our riders win. I see Rapha joining us next year as another step in that direction. They share our ambition and vision for cycling.”
  • Pross - can't see your picture, but it wasn't the standard 'wind vest', the font for 'SKY' completely different (as I said it was like the N in the new balance logo i.e. bits missing out of it in a regular pattern, also in uppercase rather than lowercase)

Sounds like the font for SKY Italia?
  • Almost like the Italian specific font, but it had horizontal triangles missing from it, a bit like the N of the New Balance NB logo
  • We will all be able to buy it cheap off Ebay from China soon enough, no need for expense at all. :D

I managed to sit through about 30 mins of that video, to be fair though it seems to be aimed at retail/business types.

Does the idea of helping to make cycling the most popular sport in the world (one of Rapha's aims from the video) sit well with their concept of them being a luxury brand and charging luxury prices?

It is the "working class" that you need to "turn on" to compete with the likes of football, no?
