13kg? No chance. But I'll crack out the popcorn and watch you compromise on the build of a potentially excellent bike to try and get there.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

it's much easier to make the build 14kg and lose 1kg off your own lard arse0 -
I applaud the OP's enthusiasm, but I have to agree, with a 36 and that frame, serious compromises are going to need to be made to hit the target. without spending top dollar or compromised spec, its not going to go below 14kg.0
-
I think it'll be close.. My forks should arrive tomorrow so I'll weigh them up and then I'll have a better idea..
Brake choice? New XTR or Formula The one?0 -
Xt, only a few grams heavier than Xtr, cheaper, and the money saved can be used elsewhere.0
-
Yea I was even thinking the New SLX, they are decent brakes too...even cheaper still. I think SLX will be enough, they're tough and only £123 off Bike-Discount.de0
-
I can vouch for the slx brakes, I have 'em and they are a great set of brakes, I'm a big fan of the short 1 finger levers to.0

Does anyone think they'll suit the bike build being grey/silver?0 -
@M_rift,
I may have to withdraw my previous comments.
1) My frame incl. shock, etc. is a similar weight to yours and I don't have a dropper post. I doubt you'll get under 13kg :P (that's a challenge) The fact you tyres weigh almost 2kg is insane, they almost double the wheel weight. Surely, you can reduce that. But good luck, It'll fly downhill just remember to hold because you'll be exhausting from hucking it up to the top. Oh and it'll look great.
2) You sold your Hope's. Poor show.Up: Wilier Mortirolo
Down: Orange Patriot0 -
New Goodies!! I was away all day and I was just itching to come back and fit it all...Now I'm happy.
I think I've realised I will be very hard to acheive the under 13kg goal, I'm at 10322g at the moment and I still need front wheel, rotors + Adaptors, Cassette, R Mech, Hammerschmidt system (1.6kg alone), brakes and then its done.
Tyres are for sale, they're just too heavy, I'm looking at Schwalbe Nobby Nic EVO SnakeSkin..anyone had some before are they any good?
Beautiful Fox TALAS RC2 - 2010 - Tapered; 2300g (Again I will weigh these more accurately too)
RaceFace Stealth Bars + Ragley Grips: 426g
Thomson Stem + Hope Spacers: 192g
Total: 10322g
I think I've changed my colour scheme to all Black!!
I must say its coming on pretty nice, I like it so far...Much prefer the All-Black colours.0 -
Now I know I'll never hit 13kg or less... Still got Front Wheel, Rotor, brakes and front shifter. I was pretty confident in the first place. My ignorance surpirses me..I will have the weigh the whole bike as it stands and get a proper measurement with parts I may have forgotten.
Still I have to change the tyres and possibly the saddle. And most importantly I have to chop off the excess steerer...
Luckily I didnt go for the Hammerschmidt in the end, that would have ruined my builds weight..

Update on Bike look.

Build is looking good so far, glad you're not compromising too much for a weight saving0
-
Looking like its heading towards 15kg, I'd say you could add 3kg from a front wheel, tubes, brakes etc that you have left, lighter tyres and you should just about get under 15kg.0
-
Well, Ordered Front Hope Pro 2 on Flow rim then going tubeless, the Formula R1 brakes will arrive in two days and I'm changing to 1X10speed instead on the 2X10 atm. The Front mech will be removed and dropping a cog on the front. The tyres will be replaced by some XC ones for the moment and I'm hoping to hit 13.5kg.0
-
There's at least 100 gs in the cassette too.0

Schwalbe Hans Dampf Tyres from Bike-Discount.de £58 for pacestar/trailstar set. 750g each. Coming soon.
What does that mean Chunkers0 -
Ok, New total.. Things are looking up. 11464g And to those who have little faith in cheap light builds..here is proof that I can get it to 13.5kg (ish).
I've taken bails87 advice and bought the Schwalbe Hans Dampf 2.35 Evos that come it at 750g each. I've also dropped the 2X10 idea and just fitted Single 36T upfront meaning I replaced the Double SLX Chainset + Bash guard with SLX Cranks + E13 The Hive 36T ring ( and Single ring guide @ 100g) and removed the Front Mech too. Further reducing the weight by roughly 700g
Things to add to bike and spreadsheet:
Front Hope Pro 2/Flow Wheel - 20mm
Formula R1 Brakes (Matt black)
Front Hope Floating Rotor (Or Formula Rotors if they're a hell of a lot lighter)
Pedals - (Sold the XTs with bike by accident)
Tubeless valves
Sealant for tyres

He means their are lighter cassettes out there!
You only running 1 disk?
Tubes or tubeless?
36T, are you going to be riding it up hills? :?0 -
Ahr, I see. I know, there probably are some insansly light ones but budget wise, its not good.
I've not got round to weighing the 203mm plus I'm getting the Formula discs soon so I might go and put those on instead.
Going Tubeless Dirtydog and yes, uphills will be a stuggle with that ring but I'm sticking with it atm because thats the setup the Ragley had and I've transferred them to the Canyon.0 -
Yes SRAM do some light ones but they're expensive, you sure about the 36t?
A 36t would kill me on the ups and I don't mind admitting it.0 -
I've been thinking about a 32T but as I've been running 36T on my last bike, I've not got anything else atm to fit on. I know it'll be harder because its a heavier bike so I'll just try it on there for the moment and get a few rides with it to see what it'll be like
What you running (Big ring) on the Orange (Nicely done btw)?0 -
I reckon when all done, oiled and cabled and greased it will be over 14kg.0

I'm thinking 13.5kg, my estimates are Front Wheel: 850g, Front rotor 160g, brakes are about 500g then I need sealant and then pedals...2kg max ontop from now till the end, hopefully low 13s
..
Thanks EH_Rob, its a tough one, searching most of the day for good deals and good components is very draining. So far its under £1400 spent and I've bought the front wheel and brakes already. Just need to fork out for pedals, sealant and maybe a black adaptor for rear brake...just to make it more black.0 -
Hope 203mm rotor, adaptor and bolts = 204g
Total: 11668g0 -
It'll be over 14kg when finished, but a cracking effort. I'll agree with dirtydog on the chainring choice, 36t maybe alright on your other bike, but trust me going my 34t ring with a 36t cassette on the HD to a 33t with a 32t cassette on my hardtail is a massive difference. a 34 or 33t would be better I think, given the bikes weight and amount of travel.0
