So I have a new bike.

Well so far this year I've ridden through three thunderstorms, floods, and some of the strongest gale force winds to hit here in a long time.

You may find some of this confusing at first but it is in fact the TRUTH.

If you are a true follower of Merckx and dare to quote the rules then you fail, because you fail rule 4 - about the bike - note bike, not bikes plural. By having a bike that is fitted with wet weather gear you also fail rule 5.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

well I don't think I said I had wet weather gear fitted but it's a fair cop. However I don't think there's anyone who doesn't transgress at least one of the rules. I see it as something to aspire to. Oh and thanks for highlighting my deficiencies0 -

I actually managed to buy a road bike today, and i'm strangely very happy. But then again an MTB with slicks in Cambridge is terrible.0

I still had to re-evaluate my braking distance though, nearly had an "incident" this morning when I failed to realise that I was approaching a junction at the bottom of a steep hill, about 15mph faster than usual, and with less braking capability.
Certainly made it interesting.
Change the standard pads to swissstop cartridge. The shimano pads I had were about as effective as a lump of lard.
The brakes are really good, but I'm comparing them to XTm785 brakes with a203mm rotor and a 2.2" slick. I doubt any brake pad would match that.0 -
Probably not but the green swiss stops are feckin amazin, especially in the wet, and they last ages. As an ex commuter, they saved my ass a few times.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

Is an ex-commuter someone who has been made redundant?0

Where in Cambridge do you ride? Commute?0 -

Not yet!
Just too much commuting was getting me down and not leaving me with any energy to go riding at the weekend. It was a 40 mile round trip 5 days a week.
Anyway, my name is prawny, and I'm also a road bike rider
