It would be great if you could link a video to a workout so that whenever you did the workout again the video automatically started.A bit more integration would save this klutz much setting up time
It should remember where your copy of angels or other video workouts are located once you've dropped them in once. Does for me.0 -

I love TrainerRoad. I was a runner for many years but a stupid one, never did the proper base training or structure. Just hammered. Started cycling 4 years ago at age 53 and then Triathlon a year later and still not training properly.
TrainerRoad is perfect for me, It's like having a Coach right there, but at $10/month. I just finished Intermediate Base 1 on Saturday and plan to do my 2nd FTP test this Tuesday. (20 minute test) First FTP test was 230 which is weak, and at my weight of 170lbs at 5'10", a measly 2.98/W/Kg. On the charts, I barely clear Fair but good incentive to both lose weight and increase power. Wish I had done this kind of training years ago.
Of course, if my FTP goes up, the Intermediate Base 2 wil be even harder and I will suffer0 -

Did the 8 minute test on thursday and just done Angels tonight before starting the Base 1 program on tuesday.
Possibly the hardest session I've done. I think when doing Sufferfest with perceived effort I'd put the pedal down too much at times while taking the foot off the gas at others. Was really impressed with doing it with TrainerRoad. Had a bit of sick in my mouth towards the end of the second 8 minute climb
Had to slightly drop off at times but there's always next time.

Well because of this thread and all your guys posts ,i ve just signed up to TR! or should that be :shock:
I got a garmin gsc-10 sensor ,a garmin HR strap... garmin ant+ stick ,,,I have had a cycleops fulid II since october last year,just need to get it all set up ...in the spare room instead of the hall where the TT is at the moment.
Then have get phsyced up to the 20 minute test...Any body got any tips about installation of sensors and the test!0 -
Well started intermediate base 1 today and did the 8 minute test for the first workout, much smoother than the 20 minute test, tried to go as hard as possible and stay consistent thru both intervals, much happier with my effort today!
Really not sure how accurate the virtual power is on my trainer, I may have to rent a power meter or get some time on a watt bike.

Found Newcomb a lot more comfortable and although it's nice to have it easier, part of me feels that if it might as well hurt a lot as a little. Have to remind myself about the bigger picture - it is only base.

I have realised that the combination of a compact and my trainer (no resistance settings) means I'm under geared for the low cadence drills. Lowest rpm I could get (on the smallest cog) and still hit the target power was 70. My right knee (minus a lot of bone and cartilage) was thankful.0 -

I decided to test it on Sufferfest revolver as I've done it a few times before and just set my FTP at the base 200. I started off thinking it felt easier that normal until the first couple of intervals and then I realised I obviously hadn't been doing it properly!! I had to wind down to 95% before I died and still struggled to keep up. In the past I guess I put less power out when I needed to take a breather.
Now I know how it works and what to watch for I will do one of the tests, or maybe both and then start Base 1. I'm a bit embarrassed to post my pathetic first attempt but I am new to this and I am 50 so I've got a few things against me!

Hi, potential TR newbie here. Can anyone tell me whether TR can be used with just the following sensors; I've got a Bryton ANT+ HR sensor and seperate Bryton cadence sensor plus have got a USB stick arriving in the post today or tomorrow. Just having a panic as to whether a speed sensor is essential as my cadence sensor does not have a speed function. Thanks0

Do the 2 x 8 min test asap for your 'own' threshold figure - the 200 is not a base figure but just a default software setting.
Don't worry if the result is higher or lower - interval training does require good pacing techniques - age is no barrier - there is ALWAYS one interval too many where you should blow up.. if you are doing them correctly - don't be sucked into making each workout super hard - make them enjoyable as much as - Eurosport race videos off YouTube/Spotify (Team Sky turbo playlists even).0 -

The initial test is important as it sets the difficulty level to your situation. You need to pace the test so that you go as hard as you can maintain for the time. It may take a little while to figure out how to pace yourself.
Once this is done, it might be a good idea to follow one of the training plans. Not all the workouts should be max efforts as they take a while to recover from.0 -

After having tried Angels (my 'favourite' Sufferfest) for the first time with TR, I've realised quite how easy I must have been taking it before. Got halfway up Alp D'Huez before my legs gave out.
Revolver was even worse!
I'm loving TR though... never worked so hard on the turbo.0 -

I have actually signed up now. Fairly sure it will end in tears but in for a penny and all that...
One problem, there is a local reliability ride on sunday which i will do providing the weather is ok. That no doubt will end in some stupid speeds as the strong boys push along on the front. Then later that day i will have to do The Hunted. Hmm its gonna get messy, may have to turn the wick down saturday and sunday.

You can use Kaiser or Givens... I tend to amend workouts via the workout creator to suit0 -
