  • Can anyone clever with Internet access that is better than 3G on a train ignite out roughly what time the last rider is going to finish so I can make a concerted effort to tune in?

Sorry to disappoint you chaps, but apparently this isn't a sporting contest anymore, just a bit of a jolly.

Those Badminton ladies have been DQ'ed for 'not putting in enough effort'.

The IOC have just de-valued their sole product. *claps slowly*

Don't really get your point here. If anything the IOC have added value to their product.

Assuming Cancellara is OK post crash he should be favourite.

Given it's taken an edge, I'd say it should be a pretty close battle.

The farmer looks out of it TBH.

    Looks pretty close so far!

Let me put it this way, if you are going to start disqualifying people for not putting in their maximum effort, then half the road racing field would be up for the chop because after all, that is strictly and 'Individual' competition and if a country rides to for the benefit of only 1 rider, they are not all maximizing their own potential.

I just think it's dangerous territory for the IOC to be getting onto. Tactics are part and parcel of any sport, if that tactic is undesirable, get rid of it with rules and regulations. The Badminton teams in question did nothing wrong, they tried their best to achieve the ultimate goal - Olympic Gold.

I understand that the people sat there watching it unfold felt short-changed, but why remove 2 teams that had a good chance of winning the thing for the sake of a couple of hundred people who i highly doubt had ever been too a/would go to another (under normal circumstances) Badminton match for goodness sake.

There's not putting in your full effort, and deliberately losing a match.

They shouldn't really have a round robin stage.

Is there a story with Idowu? or does he just not like the TeamGB management?

    All seems quite odd.

If the Badminton (sp?) players can be DQd for not trying, then should the same ruling not apply to the French and German sprinters who were entered for the road race/MTB race in order to take advantage of a loophole which gained their respective teams an extra track entry but clearly have no interest in the events?

Oddly enough I listened to something about this on Radio 4 on my drive up to Scotland last week. The dutch* athletics coach is very 'domineering', he expects everyone to do as he says and put 100% effort and focus into it.

Idowu is one of the few people to actually stand up to him. Use of twitter is one of the sore points. The coach thinks it's pointless and for time wasters, Idowu likes it and uses it to announce things, which makes the coach angry.

*Edit: he's the coach for Team GB, but he's Dutch. I remember because his brother was on the R4 thing, and said about him and his brother fighting as kids. "We were running everywhere you shee, oh boy, we musht have looked like crazshy guysh".

The girls just stuck it all over the Aussies in the team sprint qualifiers, breaking the WR in the process . . .

Can anybody tell if he actually touched?

Looked mighty close but I couldn't see any discernible movement of the marker.

Maybe it's 100m hurdles looking at it again.

    Either way, world best.

it is 100mH - the women dont do 110 and its also only the fastest by a heptathlete as opposed to a WR

Now I dont know too much about Handball,

But surely the British women would be able to put a bit of a better fight against Angola.

Edit - scrap that, it would appear that Angola are pretty good..
