Roberto Ferrari said: “I wanted to do well at the Giro d’Italia. I want to apologise again for my move that caused the crash on the third stage. I’m sorry for what I said on television straight after the finish. Today I was on the right wheel and so it was a great chance to win that I knew I couldn’t get wrong.”
“I’d like to be a sprinter like Alessandro Petacchi but I don’t think I’ve got the talent he has but of course I’ll try to do my best.”

“In the last kilometre of the sprint, Cavendish looked at me and I understood what he was trying to tell me. But I’m a sprinter and my job is to sprint and if possible to win.”

“After the crash in Denmark, I honestly haven’t noticed any bad feelings in the peloton. I’ve spoken to several other riders and nobody said I’d done the right thing but they also said that people make mistakes in sprints. I’ve got to carry on sprinting because it’s my job.”

“It’s always the rider’s fault when there’s a crash. Of course corners makes things more risky but sometimes riders crash even on straight roads.”
Rodriguez said: “I think I’ve shown I can do well in grand tours but I want to prove I’m the strongest and win the Giro d’Italia. I feel really good and so I’d like to win like Fuentes did (on the Stelvio) way back when.”
“I’m not thinking about if I’m stronger and fresher than Ivan Basso or not. I know that he’s been unlucky this year with crashes and that he might pay for it in the last week. I know my form is good and don’t think I’ll fade in the last week. I’m confident I’ll be fighting for overall victory at the Giro d’Italia with Basso and the other riders.”

Anyhow, Cavendish certainly likes to blame others when he doesn't win. I wonder if this sort of reaction will make Thomas and his other team mates more or less likely to want to crucify themselves for his benefit?
Mark Cavendish lost another chance to win in the Giro d'Italia today in Montecatini Terme. His Sky train rumbled through the last bend, but over-powered and out of control. Geraint Thomas' pedal hit the ground and caused his wheel to jump, Cavendish lost momentum and Roberto Ferrari (Androni) shot clear.

"I was screaming the last kilometres to be careful," Cavendish said on TV afterwards. "I'm a little disappointed with Geraint, he wasn't careful. I let him know right after the finish."

After spending years in the British Cycling system together I imagine Geraint Thomas already knows Cavendish pretty well, warts and all.

Lots of crashes on the sprint finishes this year. Out of 5 so far, there have been crashes at 4 of them. Wonder why, seem to be more than normal. Are the finishes different, are the riders taking more risks, are the sprints not as controlled as they have been in the past?

JR must be referring back to 1974. I remember about 25 years ago seeing a film of that Giro, and found it very good. All really about the battle between Merckx and Fuente that year. Although I don't know if it would look dated nowadays, both the cycling and the filming techniques.
After a quick google, I see it's available on DVD nowadays, together with a film about Merck's career. Stupid title though, The Greatest Show on Earth - makes it sound like a hollywood film about a circus.

So, that is two of you who are wrong. I would be quite happy for a moderator or whoever to confirm this.

BB definitely isn't Corney. A man of his intelligence doesn't need an alternative log-in to illustrate and debate his point. Just get over it.

What does Ferrari mean by that?

As I read it, Ferrari is saying that Cavendish was urging him not to do any silly moves, whereas he feels that in sprinting, anything goes.
