Close down the Helmet Cam thread

Honest to goodness, some of the crap that's posted on there as examples of 'Dangerous driving' - this thread seems to have become a magnet for the self-righteous militant cyclist that helps perpetuate some of the worst myths about 'us'. Some of the ranting and raving at drivers for total non-incidents is truely cringeworthy.

Stop demonising drivers - it's moronic. I drive regulary as do most cyclists. In 4 years of cycling to work in a busy city, I've seen only a handful of examples of dangerous driving. If you have some footage of driving which has put your life at risk, then great, take it to the police or whack it on Youtube if you to trace the driver or highlight a specific junction.

How can you have 1 thread encouraging commuters to race each other to work and another encouraging mono-visioned cyclo-evangelists to film and publicly broadcast every car that comes within 3 feet?

Lets focus on the real enemies: Government, Planners and Oil companies.

Last time I spotted a rider in the city with a cam mounted he was unsurprisingly riding in an antagonising fashion for no reason.

But to get rid of the thread would be foolish. What would separate this part of the woods from say cake stop? And now they don't have any girls to look at it you'd have to merge them!

How very eloquent of you. I couldn't give a stuff if you agree or not but have a go at responding properly. As for being called a racist - I'm still mystified and await an explanation from mybreakfastconsisted - it's been reported.

PBo - I sometimes post 'humourous' threads in Cake Stop - well they make me laugh anyway - I guess they wind most people up. Very occasionally I post serious stuff when I feel vexed. This is only 5% of the time when I come off my medication. FWIW, I object strongly to being called a racist without any foundation whatsoever. It is not acceptable to slur people (even semi-anonymous internets people) without foundation simply because you disagree with a post.

While I am not interested in getting into any personal debates/slanging matches I would argue against your proposal on 2 counts:

1. I disagree that any of the videos I have posted demonise drivers. The vast majority (of the handful I have posted)represent a situation where either I have been genuinely in fear of my life due to the actions of others or are indicative of bad driving and/or riding by another. As a driver for over 37y and a serious cyclist for at least the last 15y I reckon I have encountered both sides of more than enough fences to be entitled to my opinion.

2. It is my democratic/human/whatever right to post such vids. Its called freedom of speech! As long as I am not impinging on the rights of others I see no problem (assuming we agree that no one had the right to endanger someone else by driving/riding like a tw*t)

I deleted three posts in the Helmet Cam thread - the original reported post and the follow ups.

As for the main point of this thread ie videos/posts demonising drivers and encourage: please report them for mods to look at. This is NOT saying they will be deleted, merely they will be watched and, if it should arise, action taken. As much as I try and read as many threads as possible, looking through hundreds of pages about road videos is not something I really want to do ;-)

In addition, it seems people are bringing over personal problems encountered in other threads ie accusations and so on. Please stick to the topic in hand (though the original post was a little antagonistic in my view, could have been less agressive in nature). Any racism issues or other, again please report.

I think some people maybe confusing vesterberg with Westerberg, who did post some 'dodgy' racist stuff, he may have been teagar and blackpanther too I think (apols if incorrect), i dont think Westerberg and vesterberg are the same person - vesterberg seems to have a sense of humour, which is odd seeing that he's posting in the communters section.
