^tasted like unfinished home brew. Maybe not bottle fermented properly?

I've never had an off bottle, but it's certainly possible, I guess.

Did you give it plenty of time to settle, so it poured clear?

There's no point in discussing Belgian beer. There's nothing better than Duvel (apparently now available on tap)! End of discussion.

I discovered (on an empty stomach) Leffe on tap in York a couple of years back. Needless to say I can't remember getting home. And that journey involved a train.

Sitting here watching Gent Wevelgem, while sipping a Duvel Trippel H, I just remember that Lidl have a few offers on, Easter week (16th) 4 packs of Corsendonk Bruin (£5-99 - 7.5%) and all at £4-99, Gaulois Amber (5.5%) Blonde (6.3%) and Petrus Bruin (6.5%)

    ^thanks for that Blazing.
Just trying the Gauloise Blonde 6.3% which I like - bottle refermented and quite citrus dry/refreshing.
Not so sure about the Corsendonk Bruin, found it a bit sweet, but I'll manage to force it down.

Haha! I've lived in Lille for the past seven years but I still forget how strong it all is and drink as fast as everyone does back home!

Same here- it all goes down at the same rate regardless of strength. Safest for me is a decent 4-5% bitter, unless I know I'm just having one or two. Otherwise .......

Edit: I write on my return from a birthday bash when the drinkable beer ran out very quickly so I turned to the wine...
  • Offshore on nightshift but will catch Roubaix next week. These should last til the Arenburg

  • The Antwerp Stout was excellent for those who like chocolate notes. Poured well as well, which is always a bonus

I'm sure it works if you do it right... I just poured most of a schneider weisse onto the counter...

I can't see why it wouldn't be possible with any bottled liquid.

If Tom Boonen says the best way to consume Duvel is by snorting it through a straw, then you snort it through a straw.

Of course, Roger DeVlaeminck says that in his day Duvel was 17% and you had to consume it via an enema.

I don't know if anyone has been following the Belgian cop show "Public Enemy" which is set in the Ardennes.
It's being shown currently, on Sky Atlantic.
It's becoming pretty clear that the local brewery, Achouffe puts some beer money into the production, as somebody seems to be supping on a La Chouffe stumpy in every other shot!
Also, there is a sub plot about a local shady businessman trying to market the local Abbey's brew.

Anyhow, that aside, Lidl are at it again for Dad's Day.
The usual 6 pack of mixed from the Van Steenberge brewery. (£10-49)
Again 4 packs of Corsendonk bruin, blonde and new, I think, Guud 8 blonde.(£6-99)
Also new in are 6 packs of mix beers from Petrus (£7-99)

I drank a lot of this last night. 2 x Chimay blonde, 2 x Delirium Tremens, Westmalle Dubbel, De Koninck, Kwak, I think that was all...

Anyway, Lidl deals look good, will have to pay them a visit!

Picked up a selection of these this morning, our local Lidl had Corsendonk roodbruin too.

I highly recommend the Lidl Van Steenberge. All very high ABVs though.

Well it is the Opening Weekend...

And it is on offer in Waitrose at only twice the price of every other beer.

It's gone up in price, too before they knocked the 25% off.
They have better at the same price.
Talking of which, I had a look at my stock and found I had 3 of their Tripel Karmeliet, date stamped 23/2/2018.
Guess what I had today? :P

Despite it not being Belgian, everyone should try Hövels.

Well...as it looks like we are leaving, I thought I would renegotiate this thread and show you all my Festive Collection of British beer...

So a strong presence of Black Sheep Ale from Masham and Long Blonde from the Long Man Brewery just round the corner from here. With the remainder being a random selection from various other local sources...

/\ I'll take a photo of my imperial stout collection when I get home...

Boss just gave me a beerhawk Christmas present, all stuff I've had before but can't complain too much.

    Magic Rock Saucery
    Beavertown Lupuloid
    Siren Soundwave
    Thornbridge Florida Weisse
    Rooster Yankee

All passable except I'd take your Black Sheep over the Yankee, it's a bit meh.

My stout/barleywine collection is more impressive.

    Happy Christmas!

I'd say Black Sheep Ale is very appropriate for a 2019 christmas sesh, given where the World's were held.

Have a good and healthy Christmas ridge. I'm sure I'll see you fit and ready to go in 2020.
