What music are people most allergic to, I mean music that causes a physical reaction of repulsion? :)

(A thread topic inspired by what I just heard on the tv in the other room whilst cooking.)

My vote:

Anything R & B (as in the modern version, not the Jazz one), just so so dull!!
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

  • as above, modern R & B, but I really react very badly to Scouting for Girls - ruddy awful stuff...

Good ole C & W. Things might have moved on a bit, but all in all the Republicans, ten gallon hats, tassles, rhinestones, eight kids and a dog in the yard lyrics get to me in then end.

Just to clarify, if you've heard 'dubstep' on the radio it isn't dubstep. That is 'pop-step'. Tends to remind of old dial-up internet sounds....

That said I can probably count on my fingers the few 'true' dubstep tunes I do love.

I'm quite open minded with music going from drum&bass to classical (sometimes in the same track) but I have a severe continuing hatred of:

    +100

I like the woody allen tootly tootly jazz but the parp-bop-wee-bop-skidddly-bop jazz I just don't get. Banning it was probably the second best idea Hitler had*

The Smiths. I have a very wide taste in music, but I just don't get what all the fuss is about with them. Morose crap.

I feel your pain, that's my line on it too.....
The only word in the English language to begin with a silent C.

Bringing it down to specific songs though, I've always thought that "Loveshack" by the B52's was 4:20 too long.

Dust, Pollen, Bees, Inspiral Carpets, Stray Cats, any of these can bring on a Massive Attack. Quite like The Vaccines though.

    Really?

Not even from a cultural interest perspective?

Some early eminem stuff is great - more from a general 'art' perspective rather than out and out music.

Darkly funny, ironic, cutting, clever, interesting.

Bruce Springsteen. Can turn a 4 minute turd of a song into 15 minutes of pure musical diarrhoea.

Matt Cardle, the most whining boring voice in music. makes me want to fill my ears with cement whenever he's on the radio.

U2...same old same old...is it a new song...no its 15 years old, spot the difference?

    Pet Shop Boys. See above.

Any* music can sound great or rubbish depending on the situation:

Death metal sounds good on a DH MTB video, but would be a poor Wedding choice.
Classical is a good choice for a Sunday reading the newspapers, but would be a poor choice for a spinning session.
nDubs is a great choice for a video in which nDubs are beaten to death.
Any* music that makes women take their clothes off is excellent.

*for the pedants, not actually any, but go with me for the effect.

My kids were asking last night what's the longest song I know cos they've heard some bit of pop tat that goes on for over 6 minutes apparently. Told em about the joys of Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes, Rush etc doing tracks that last the entire side of an LP. Cue "what's an LP?..."
