What's the needle between Valverde and Gerrans?

    Valverde. Nice.

    Cant keep a champ down.

Did anyone know Gerrans was riding? Did he just show his nose in the final few metres? I didn't watch it but cnews ticker makes it sound that way.

Eh? How is one a champ and the other a wheelsucker (which is what you're appearing to suggest)? Neither showed their nose before the final couple of hundred metres, as you'd expect on a finish like today.

Sorry about the "needle" reference; totally accidental and well picked up there. The word "needle" was suppose refer to copious amount of drug taking by the accused. I don't think he, "the accused", can sue as he has been proven to be dirty rotten cheat even though he's good to watch. See Basso, has the dignity to be rubbish and pretend that he is sorry. If Basso gets to the front, riding in the Giro and winning it, then he's less dignified and should go to the back of the Peloton and think hard about his previous bad behaviour. Ex dopers should ride at the back of the Peloton at all times for being naughty. Maybe also, the Podium could have a "the Podium steps" and a "Naughty Step" for returning ex-cheaters! The Podium Stage, these days, might get a little crowded and probably collapse under the weight. More time needed to think on this!! ;)

About the warming up/down on the Turbo; I'll see loads of this at the "Gillingham and District Wheelers" Hard Riders TT at Bruton, Somerset this Saturday. Just thought I'd say that ok; almost sounds like I'm advertising an Event?? ;)

    Andyp,

Valverde because he is a GC candidate races differently to Gerrans.

Valverde because he got/gets so much hate yet it a superb rider.

Gerrans comment as I say because:
'It was quite an impressive sprint by Gerrans though, who really came out of nowhere to make it close'

He is a wheelsucker on the big stage. Even if he does some good stuff.

I hate to say Wheelsucking is the way to win races. Valverde only appears at LBL when the poo hits the fan but up until then he's invisible. Canny knack he has. They said Rebellin was so white cos he was always riding in other rider's shadows all the time. Boonen lost the "Newsplatt" (can't remember the one day race the other day) when he took out the sprint too early and the young Garmin kid took him at the finish. Hell, I wheelsucked for many years but that was hanging on the back of the race for dear life. :S

Q1. Does a GC candidate race the same as a puncheur? No.

Q2. How many photos do you want of Valverde out in front?

What's with this Wiggo business? It's just SO pathetic.

That some of us call him Wiggo, or that he has "Wiggo" on his kit?

It's the Wiggo on his kit that annoys me.

I agree. It's just the term in bandied about as some kind of insult by people with a bizarre idea of sport.

As many as you've got because it is a rare sighting. Any of him alone would be really appreciated.

I'm not having a go, I just find it wryly amusing that you are so critical of riders who you think are wheelsuckers yet think that Valverde is somehow different. Putting aside his misdemeanours, he's a rider who can climb and sprint and the majority of his wins come from small groups where he's the best sprinter on a hilly parcours. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but neither can it be equated with panache.

Boonen lost out on the last climb.

If you look closely it was more that he did a lot of lead out probably for Sylv and not as Harmon said for Leapy (c S Kelly) Leipheimer as Tony and he were in front of Sylv a bit later. (I had put my knitting down by then to concentrate!)

Valverde wanted the time bonus so he was all out at the finish. No prisoners!
This is typical Valverde style stage racing.

hey stop hating on the chap.

He's really good, and he happens to be the best sprinter of anyone who can go uphill.

We don't get this chat when Cav wins (apart from Iain).
