You are talking twaddle. If students being annoying had a detrimental effect on their future employability, none of them would ever get a job. Being annoying and thinking you are terribly clever is what being a student is about.

So, unlike you, she has an excuse. You should have grown out of it.

And nobody will remember this next year let alone by the time she graduates.

    Stop making ridiculous comparisons.

Alll student stupidity ends up on the BBC home-page and an article in the Guardian does it? Silly me.

That's the moronic thing - it's one thing to write a stupid letter, it's another to get it on the news.

I helped move someone jobs who, when you googled their name, came up with 5 pages of hits for newspaper articles about their sordid (in parts, illegal) life.

Can't give many more details (for obvious reasons), but it's certainly alright.

Ah, I don't want to give the gender.

I helped someone move jobs, whose name came up all over google having done sordid & illegal stuff. Said person is doing pretty well.

No - all student silliness doesn't necessarily end up on the BBC home page etc but who cares? The news pages publish piles of filler every day and only a real saddo would care about it. OK, I'll concede that there are some twits that might be adversely affected in their opinion of her based on juvenile silliness a decade ago but I suspect most will understand that a 19 year old is someway short of being a fully developed adult.

Would I employ her? How the hell should I know. She hasn't done her degree yet and she is still barely more than a child. I wouldn't be keen in my business to employ anyone without at least a Masters qualification.

If I had to employ her or you now though, I'd take her any day of the week. She'll change - we'd be stuck with you being the way you are for good.

No, I wouldn't. But these days loads of people have a big identifiable internet presence - letters to Universities aren't the sort of things that are going to stand out as big negatives. I think a presence on the BBC is going to be an interesting change to the predictable photos of drink and drug addled parties (but even those I wouldn't hold against a prospective employee though obviously some might).
