wheels look sweet!! where did you get them from out of interest? i can't seem to find anyone who does tune hubs in thru-axle format

any idea when we'll see this build finished?? :P

http://r2-bike.com built the wheels and also supplied the tyres and seat clamp.

I hope to have the bike built up and rolling in the next few days. All i need is Valve Stems and Yellow Rim tape...
  • And please for the love of god tell me your just going to go to a lbs to pick those up, rather than ordering them offline and waiting for them to be delivered?

That build is going to be awesome once it actually takes place, I wonder how the QR clamp actually performs, I could imagine it may be a bit of a hassle due to the size of the lever.
  • Yes, please, I'm also interested to see your bike once built.

I'm building a Jekyll with some custom parts. I do not have all the parts I'm looking for yet (especially ... the frame).

I'm also seaching for a light but performant bike.

So, I'm very interested in any of your comment or feed back (and the final weight). Thanks !

    My part list:
    - Frame: Jekyll Carbon (Black)
    - Fork : Rock Shox Revelation World Cup XX
    - Wheels : Mavic SLR
    - Crankset : Rotor XC2 3D+
    - Pedals: Crank Brother Candy 11
    - Transmission : XTR (shifter, cassette, chain, derailleurs)
    - Brakes : Hope Mono Mini Pro X2. 160 Scrub rotor for the rear, 180 Hope rotor at the front.
    - Stem / Handlebar : Raceface Carbon (from my existing bike)
    - SeatPost : Ritchey WCS / Seat: Italia SLR
-MCFK like seatpost clamp & some aluminium bolts
  • So where is it?

I want to see it NOW dammit!!!!

Also, tell me how those wheels are holding up. I'm thinking of going for a similar build (with flows though) from the exact same place.

Finally, are the tune hubs VERY loud? Not a big fan of very noisy hubs (I hate pro IIs).
  • Yup, was this ever actually built, or is it just different parts sitting on scales still?

+1 and why weigh a shock pump? fully expecting to see a picture of a bucket of special light mud for it to get covered in on the scales next

You should weigh it with the air in the tyres aswell to get a really specific weight!
  • six sets of batteries for the scales and KaBOOM it's still not built haha
  • still not built!?? surely you could have saved yourself months by not weighing everything??
Sorry but being that anal about the bikes weight is unbelievable. Unless the wall mount you have it on in your front room dictates a certain weight limit?! good job its not having anything like mud added to increase that all important rolling weight!

the components are all so light he's had to spend most of his time tying them to things to stop them all from floating off. which is why it hasn't been built.

sick scales - how much do they weigh?

perhaps since he had no bike for a while he was so excited when it was finished he actually went out and rode it, rather than post up some pictures on the interwebs so people can drool at it.... Just a chance he might actually ride it....

i almost felt bad for being skeptical after that last post.

    almost.
  • Considering a few pages ago he took the time to weigh, take pictures, upload them, and post them, of a sram lockring for a casette, without posting pictures of the finished build, I highly doubt it is built already. Maybe if he hadn't ordered everything off the internet and had used an LBS, he would have had this build done months ago.

You have hit the nail on the head. Although i do have more then one bike to ride, this Jekyll build has been taking so long for various reasons, that as soon as it was finished, all i wanted to do was ride the damn thing....

It was finished about 4 weeks ago, but i only managed to get out on it twice before having to come out to Asia for my work

I won't be home in Scotland for another few weeks, but i promise to get some pics posted when i'm back

@Lawman - You were so right about going for the Crest Rims. They feel plenty stiff for trail riding but also accelerate amazingly well.

Only ridden twice, so can't comment on how the wheels will hold up in the long term. But i can say that overall they feel stiffer then i expected.

Before buying I was led to believe that Tune hubs would be as loud or louder then Hopes. And although i have not done a side by side comparison yet with any bike with Pro II's, i would say the Tune's are less noisy (and sound much nicer IMHO), although I'm sure are still to noisy for some ;)

No, unfortunately not. I order it in october from my usual dealer and haven't received it yet.

I've been also awaiting my Scrub rotor for 1 month now ... and no news.

    Both should come this month.

The last part I'll have to order is the fork (I'm waiting for the frame to verify that I will be able io mount a tapered steerer) but it should be quick.

We have many similar but different choices on many parts. Before building it I will weigh the different parts. It will be interesting to see the differences.
  • I've just had the green light from the wife to test a Jekyll3 this weekend at a demo day, deal is i redecorate the house top to bottom, SOLD!!

    Looking forward to some pics........

As far as i know running a tapered fork is possible. I seem to recall seeing one of the factory riders had a Jekyll fitted with a tapered.

I THINK the way to do it would be to buy 2 headsets. A 1.5 and a 1 1/8", and use the 1.5 on the bottom crown and the 1 1/8" on the top.

I have a PDF file of the 2011Jekyll user manual, it has some headset part codes.

    KP119/ - 1.5 headset
    KP058/ - 1 1/8" headset

Send me PM if you want with your email and i will forward you the manual..
