My Cannondale Jekyll Carbon Build.

Although what arrived today is not strickly a component to go on my Jekyll, i thought i would share them with you anyway as they will go on me sometimes while im on the Jeykll
I finally found some POC Joint VPD Shin-Knee 2011 pads in size Large. I have been looking for a pair of these for a few months, but they seem to be very rare now, possibly as they are being replaced with shorter VPD 2.0 pads in 2012. I wanted the 2011 ones as they cover the full knee and the shin.
I had already bought the POC Joint VPD Elbow pads a few months ago (size Medium), and really loved their comfort and build quality.
POC VPD's really puts my 661 Evo Knee pads to shame, especially terms of quality, but also in fit and comfort. My 661's started to fall apart after only 1 ride and have a cheap and nasty finishing. I have to re-sew, glue and trim excess treads of them all the time (I see their will be a whole new design for the 661 Evo products for 2012, lets hope they have sorted the quality issues i experienced with mine).
I have yet to crash wearing POC pads, but i think they will also greatly out-perform my 661 Evos in this department. The VPD Shin/Knee pads have more then double the thickness of intelligent foam around the knee, and they also cup around the knee and mould much better which will help them stay in place during a crash ( In one big crash my 661 Evo's slipped down and i ended up with a pretty messed up knee)
Unlike the 661 Evo d30 material, the Poc VPD material is quite firm when you first put them on. But after they get heated by body warmth it starts to become softer and moulds like a putty. VPD becomes ridged like d30 under impacts.
I also like the way i feel like Batman while i have them on
Has anyone tried POC Flow or DH gloves yet?
POC Joint VPD Shin-Knee 2011 - size Large
POC Joint VPD Elbow 2011 - size Medium.

The only red parts i plan right now to have on the bike will be the Formula levers, callipers and rotors, and they might be getting changed also for black and gold Formula The Ones, i will see how i feel once its built0 -

Some more parts arrived today.
I decided to give Continental Mountain King Two's a try, and went for the more robust ProTection version with the Black Chili compound, but since they arrived i found that have been sent the Mountain King One's, and they are also about 80g heavyer then their quoted weight, not impressed
I got them for a great price, so i have not decided if i will keep them or not. Anyone had any experience with these exact tires?
Continental Mountain King 2.4 ProTection Black Chili - 722g / 735g.
Token Cassette Locking - Gold - 4g
Sram XX locking - 6g
Crud Steve Peat Fast Fender 81g

DCR00 wrote:ive used a 2.4 MT on the front and didn't like it
washed out at Cannock on two different bikes
TBF it wasn't a Black Chilli option, but it felt a bit skittish in the corners for me
The compound may take care of that tho
Thanks of your feed-back, I have read the same in a few places about the MK 1's.. What tires are you using now?
I have found somewhere that stocks MK 2 Protection's for a good price, so i think i will switch to them, as they seem to be getting rave reviews all-round.0 -
DCR00 wrote:i went back to my previous Ron/Ralph set up, which is a great set up, but not great for the Winter
so have just ordered a Minion DHF 60a 2.35 for the front (moving the Ron to the back for now)
I have never tried Rons or Ralphs, although im a fan of Nobby Nic's, always found them a pretty good all-rounder.
You will have to report back with how you get on with the Minion's.0 -

testing this weekend at Llandegla, so will let you know
they arent exactly light tho, so maybe not suitable for your build0 -

That would be great. I was thinking about getting some Rubber Queens for using in bad conditions, so it would be good to see how the Minion's compare to them weight wise, as the Minion's tread looks even more extreme in pics.0

the tyre i have came in at around 830grams, thats for the Wire bead 2.35 single ply 60a Maxxpro model
which is heavier than whats quoted on the Maxxis website (785)
that was using a cheapo kitchen scale from ASDA
they look pretty good TBH, even the 60a has a tacky feel to it and the tread pattern looks pretty impressive
i should have the other one today/tom, so ill see what that one comes in at0 -

Heavier but the grip on minions is fantastic, they scare you! just how far you can push the front end before it lets go, (don't try this at home) you can literally hit berms at full whack leaning the bike as far over as you dare and they still grip.
Brilliant tyre highly recommend them.0 -

That's lighter then i expected for such an aggressive DH tire.
I would guess that the folding version will be lighter still. 8)
I saw this picture of Rubber Queen Tyre - Black Chilli 2.4's. and it appears they are coming in at the same weight.

Cheers, i like the sound of scaring my self with full whack berm attacks0 -
The Jekyll's new saddle arrived today. Sure is a lovely looking thing, not sure i want to get it dirty
I'm replacing the Fizik Gobi XM of my old Rize due to never really gelling with it. I seem to have a strange shaped botty, as i seem to be the only person that the Gobi does not agree with. Replacing it also brings a bonus of saving 141g
Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Saddle - White - 126g
Fizik Gobi XM WingFlex (Magnesium Rails) - 267g

700grams is the quoted weight, so based on the differential on my tyre, its "real" weight should be around 740grams0 -

Have you put "any" of this together yet? I keep looking and all i see is more bits on scales! C'mon stick a few bits together so we can see. :P
p.s. dont forget the beans!0 -
Not started to build yet, did not want to frustrate myself further lol..... I was planning to wait for my wheels to arrive from Germany, although im also waiting for Chain Reactions to get restocked with a XX rear shifter, its meant to be in stock on the 29th of Nov ( fingers crossed)..
Trust me, this wait is agonising !!0 -
