Errrr - whats happened to Tusher. Should someone go round to her house with a defibrilator just in case?

Incredible job by Wiggins, then Stannard/Geraint to get Cav higher then Cav for keeping calm, finding the gap and ripping them.

    Congratulations.
    My congratulations also.
I thought that all the hard work by the team at the front of peloton was more for the "SKY" advertising budget.
Very glad Mark didn't let them down to make it a very outstanding memorable day. Thanks.

Wiggo did leave it all on the road (good man) as he finished about 105 @ 3 mins 15 seconds.

Absolutely delighted! Fantastic. Great team job.
I'm confident we won't see any 'rainbow curse' next year!

More importantly  , do you think this year Cav will win BBC sportsperson of the year!? .....probably not!

Well he might be short-listed but they'll probably give it to some footballer - 'cos of course they are so clean.

Team GB and Mark Cavendish... words fail me. As someone who wasn't alive in 1965, I have spent most of my life never being able to even conceive of a day such as today.
  • Well, I have been to some amazingly exciting sporting events over the years and seen many more on tv but I can honestly say that was one of the best, if not THE best, sporting events I have ever watched.

I think I wanted Cav to win so much because of the incredible effort of the rest of the team. I would have been gutted if one of teams that did no work all day got the win.

Also, great rspect to Cav. He never talks about me, it is always we and the team.

  • As much as i hate cavendish, he totally deserved the win today. It was a masterful finish, and on this day, i will say, cheers, you earned it

A great performance by the GB team. And to think that back in the old days the only time one usually saw a GB jersey was when the rider wearing it was going out of the back!
My memory is of Robert Miller trailing at the back while he was acting as a domestic for the Greg Lemond USA Team.

Disagree, Robert Millar, 10th and 6th at worlds,...1984,1985

Cav is surely the best from British isles ever now
  • Amazing stuff from team GB, and well done to Cav!

From the BBC web video, it looked like he was wearing some kind of transparent cover over his helmet? Does anyone know if that was the case?

It was probably to stop it getting damaged if he lost and threw it out of the bus!!

Wiggins seemed to have something on his as well ... Likely a 'marginal gain' ... And as easy as it is to take the piss it may have provided the 0.10 of a second Fab needed to come 3rd ... I'm guessing at sprinting speeds for 200m into wind resistance it could have some effect ...

Cav came across well in the post win interview ... But then the bbc one was exactly the same (but not the same interview) word for word and sadly came across as rehearsed ...

I also get the feeling it didn't mean as much to him as everyone else ... We've seen alot more emotion from him in other circumstances ... Likely he felt under alot of pressure, especially as it was his first day in his new job, so to speak ...
  • Awesome race - huge effort form the whole team following a tactic that every one of the other teams knew about for the last year - and yet still delivered.

Huge effort from Wiggins - and David Millar as DS on the road must have had nerves of steel in this one.

    See, pigs can fly!
  • Normally Cav gets up my nose. Dodgy fix with Rob Hales at the CG, "borrowing" somebody else's gold medal to try and mix with the gold medalists flying back from Beijing - (well done on the BA stewardess for standing up to him). These are all witnesses to a personality I would hate. However, the pressure must have been great and he lost Thomas in the last 1km, as was highly likely to happen, when working with a new final lead-out man for the first time for real. Even so he came up with the best sprint and won from a not ideal position.

That is the way to win a World Championship. He did it superbly. Well done to Cav.

Brad, Froome and the rest can be proud of the faultless part they played in his win.

Can anybody tell me what tactics Gilbert was using to effect his bid on the title ?
  • I was expecting Gilbert to go for it solo on the last lap but his challenge never materialised.

    Strange choice of tactics really.

That final lap was a proper shout at the telly moment... I think I scared my kids and broke a few by-laws with my volume when he crossed the line. I missed the live coverage but saw the BBC2 coverage - absolutely brilliant! Next summer the country lanes are gonna be full of mamils in Sky replica rainbow jerseys...

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.
