SW Londoners - Interested in a group ride?

  • Ah, only saw this thread this morning.

Would a single speed be welcome?... My roadie's a long way away.

Most of the hills are doable even with reasonably stiff gearing.

the only warning I'd give is that taking a single speed to a club run is saying "please find every steep hill and link them together !" so more than ever if you can lead a group it's probably wise if only for your knees!

I seemed to do OK. Box Hill was fine.

It was the shallow downhills with a lil tailwind that were difficult. Just span out.

I'm fairly heavy and have SS than FG so I can catch lycra roadie normally once we go downhill.

It's a nice route out to Boxhill, but lets be honest none of the hills are steep. the ones to watch are the ones that cross the ridge of the downs like Whitedown.

Greg back me up on this.

Only just seen this. Can vouch for ITB's wide ranging predilections and lack of hearing.

When and where. I am super keen. Only live as far as Clapham Junction, but am keen to venture out and come back in.

Damn, missed by virtue of being eaten by midges on Mull but may well keep eyes peeled to get some long distances under the belt...

    Must confess, having not ridden round there before;

    a) some bits are lovely and b) the two climbs I did, Box Hill and some other one, are lovely!

Yup, it was indeed a nice ride. We rolled through the park avoiding Dark Hill due to some wuss on a single speed ;) before out into the Surrey countryside via Esher and Chobam. The first hill was Critten Lane, where we turned into Ranmore Common (avoiding Whitedown), down into Dorking then up Box Hill to watch the preparations for Sunday's race. We had some fun back down to Epsom before the obligatory run through the Horton RB's where me and one of the others were towing the peleton along at about 30mph. A slower pace took us the rest of the way home.

I'll probably sort out another one in September or get yourself along to a Kingston Wheelers meet where we do the same route every week.

WR - what are the details for the Kingston Wheelers meetups?

Would certainly be keen for some longer rides.

I'm riding sat. Was going to head out towards Windsor, but could be interested in a Sat am ride with some company. Not really fussed where it goes! Nothing too intense as this is the first weekend of my training attempt!

Don't know if the route came up... Anyway, its moderately hilly:

staple lane, crocknorth, whitedown, leith hill, ranmore and bookham. 80km. gentle pace.

New Years resolution: do more hills.

Sorry but 1pm is far too late for me. I was thinking 08:30/9:00 TBH.

I'm up for something Sat Morning or even Sun Morning. 1pm sat is pushing it as I have rugby at 6.

Sunday morning - I'm hoping to go out with the Kingston Wheelers and do the short ride. Effingham / Critten Lane / Box Hill / Epsom / home.

Got to be at a christening in Brixton at 1.

Why don't you come to that Sketchley?

Will try to get out this weekend, though depends on if I finally kick the flu I've had for the last few days and what the missus wants to do. May be up for a later morning/early afternoon ride, will check with her.

Yep I'm a season ticket holder. I'm on telly most weeks as I sit one row behind subs bench, you can normally see me when the teams run out.

If I can blag it with the missus I'm planning on the KW Box Hill ride - though will give the cafe stop a miss to get back early.

Indeed I was thinking that I might do KW ride earlier in the week. I would have to clean the bike though it's a bit dirty at the moment....

You should see mine. I could ride it through a mud bath and it would come out cleaner.

Saturday I could do, Sunday possibly not as I'm likely out for a friend's birthday Sat eve and may not fancy doing much Sunday morning.
Assuming you live quite far out ClarkeyCat? Looks about 20 miles for me to get to the start line.

  • So Sketchley, you're one of the chinless royalty are you.....!

Season ticket, but with the scout jamboree. The other half manages to get in the pre match crowd mingling shots, as he and his two mates that come along always (well nearly always) wear their blazers, with pride!

Lets hope its a good game and may Quins put Gloc in their place. I've also just been told Marler has had another haircut, the comment is oh dear - not seen it myself, yet!
