Hi Toast, I know what you mean about the saddle graphics, but I've found mine so comfy that I don't want to change it. I think it's bargain of the century at the price but would love to see an all black version.
For the bars, don't rush it, may be better to ride on a few different trails before deciding to lay out more money, as I found different heights and widths suited different trails, and am still deciding on the best compromise after a few hundred miles (reckon I'll be chopping my bars from 725 down to 700-710). Try swapping the spacer from below to above the stem first and see how you go as it looks like you've got a cm or two of height adjustment there..Carbon 456 http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12754782

The seat is actually growing on me so to speak from a comfort point of view and funny enough so are the bars, I will be posting your bits tomorrow (Saturday).0 -

Thanks Leaflite, The bike gets better and better with time, the more I ride it the more i enjoy it, + it does not look like every other bike out there, there is something individual about it, here is a pic of my stems face plate as requested, hope it helps.

Thanks, I will say it again, the more I ride it the more I love it, I have just ordered some raceface Deus lowrise bars for it in gold, they are lighter than the original bars and i think the lowrise will feel better, Same width of 680mm.0 -
I added some new parts today, Some NC-17 Gold chain ring bolts, and some new bars, Raceface Deus also in gold, I may as yes lose the SS Grips back to my old black and white odi ruffians as I am not sure on the gold on gold look as yet.
The bars have saved 110g over the old ones.
Here are some new pics, Not glamour shots, I will get some of them when I am out tomorrow.

After a nasty crash on Sunday, I will not be ridding for a couple of weeks, I have a fractured rib, screwed ankle, badly bruised thigh and a very sore shoulder, The funny thing was I was travelling at 0 miles an hour at the time.

Well.........
Firstly I wont mention no names as the other person involved uses this forum, I was out on Sunday having a really miserable ride, Pouring with rain, the person leading the ride didn't have a clue where he was going, Every hill was walked, I mean the sight of a hill and they got off and walked, apart from me and another who attempted everything and spent most of our time waiting for the walkers. There was 5 of us on the ride.
Anyhow, after 6 hours of crap we were homeward bound, YAY. On the road, we found a hill downward so that was ridden by everyone, I was fourth back and there was one other behind me, at the bottom of the hill was a roundabout so everyone stopped to give way, BANG the next thing i knew i was off and all i remember was my ankle scrapping along the road. The guy behind me didn't notice us stop, smashed into my front wheel, burst my front, my first reaction was is the bike ok, so we checked that and fixed the puncture, the bike seemed fine all over expect for a scratch in my new bars fitted the day before.
I hurt but not as much as I did when I woke up the next day so at 6am I went to A&E to be told after an x-ray I had a fractured rid, muscle bruising to my thing and shoulder and not to ride for 2 weeks and no work for 1.
He must have been doing about 25mph and a core 50 hitting you at that speed hurts.
here are some pics of my bike after the ride.
I have not attempted to ride since as i need to heal, It has knocked my confidence a bit and I need to get back out ASAP to rebuild it.0 -
Bike looks great and thats coming from someone that doesn't like gold.
Bummer about the accident, how did the other guy not see the roundabout? Ribs are one of the worst things to break as theres nothing you can do and they'll be sore for weeks0 -

Thanks for the kind comments, i like to think the gold is subtle and not to in your face, the only other thing that will be gold is the hubs on my new wheelset, and also some gold bolts here and there, I was stationary for about 5-10 seconds before i was hit, so i have no idea how it happened, but....
if a car is hit from behind it is always classed as the driver behinds fault, i am just glad there was no damage to the bike, expect for the small scratch on the bars, if there was damage to the frame/forks i would possibly be in prison now.0 -
I'd have been livid, no two ways about it! Hopefully a speedy recovery and back in the saddle soon!
I rekon the tyres with the white outers from the rockhopper would look great on the 456!0 -

tbh i was livid but s%$£ happens, I feel anger every time i think about it mainly because none of it was my fault, I still have the nobby nics with the white But i have found the rons seem to grip better.
I need to get back out asap as i need to rebuild that confidence.0 -

Thanks, yeah getting there, lots of R+R and light duties at work, I am looking to back on my bike next monday.0 -
Hi,
Just got one of these with the X9 build and must say I'm pretty disappointed with the finish. The amount of crap under the clear coat and decals isn't acceptable in my opinion. Hairs, dust, bubbles, bumps etc all over the place and it's also covered in scratches. What was yours like when you got it?
Another thing I've noticed is the clear coat doesn't go all the way to the top of the seat tube. There seems to about a 1/2 inch gap between the bottom of the seat post clamp and the start of the clear coat. Is this normal?
It's a shame as it's such a nice looking bike but I think I'm going to have to return it. If I get an exchange is the next one likely to be the same?
Thanks.0 -

You should expect better so go for a replacement. Mine was fine although I got the raw gloss frame without decals. Feedback from others who bought the black & red, and also who bought the Whippet is that paint finish is v. good. On my seat tube, there's a texture change in the finish also about a half inch from the top. Looks like black gloss paint as opposed to the clear gloss over raw carbon of the rest of the frame.
Toast, hope you're getting better fast, sorry to hear about your injuries. No sign of the chainring bolts yet. Post is usually only 10 days from UK but sometimes variable. If there was any issue with the addressing it'll get returned to you (provided you wrote a return addr on the packet).Carbon 456 http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12754782

I think someone has caught a serious case of 'shinythingitis'
Gold rims and hubs would look slighly sickly, black rims with little white details and gold hubs would look pretty sweet though
Something along these lines with gold hubs if you REALLY must :? >> http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/WPOOXC/on-o ... r-wheelset0 -

Exactly my thoughts looking at your photos. Bike looks really nice at moment. Gold hubs would fit in nicely but rims too could by a little OTT.Current bikes:
Norco Sight 3 SE (on order)
Specialized Allez 2010
Old bikes:
Commencal META 55 custom build (Stolen )
Boardman HT Comp 2010
GT Avalance 1.0 2006(ish)0 -
that was my thinking, black rims with gold hubs it is them
Maybe these then
- Adaptor Included F - SWITCH HUBS QR Adaptor
- Adaptor Included R - SWITCH HUBS QR Adaptor
- Hub Type Front Switch EVO Front Hub - Gold
- Hub Type Rear Switch EVO Rear Hub - Gold
- Nipples Gold Alloy SAPIM SILS
- Rim Stans Flow Disc Black - INSTOCK
- Rimtape Included Free of Charge
- Spokes Black Double Butted SAPIM Race Spokes0 -
So that works out at £279, not bad at all... methinks that 'shinythingitis' really caaan be expensive :P
Very tempted by the Crest/Switch combo though... MUST... RESIST..!!0 -
fantastic bike there,
giving me some insperation0 -
Firstly, bike looks awesome, love the subtle touches of gold... I had originally planned to use gold bits for my NS Surge when I built that, and started, but never finished; planned to use Hope pro2 gold hubs, so I got the front wheel built then I found a "can't turn it down" eBay special "Buy It Now - Hope Pro 2 Rear Hub" at £60 inc. free p& p... Hence why I ended up with odd coloured hubs, but will change the front for a black pro2 hub so its matching for the C456....
Hopefully will have mine built by the weekend and can't wait to get out for a ride0 -
I joust got myself some new lights a helmet mounted one and a bar mounted one, I just got back from a short night blast and fell in love with this bike all over again.
No new rims yet, i am going to wait until i run the mach 1's into the ground and spend my cash on a helmet cam of some kind/0 -
How are the superstar flat pedals?
I've always used DMR V8's although my current set are about 5 years old now and starting to feel a bit of play in the pedal, did look at those Superstar pedals as they have such a low profile, also really like the new Spank Spike pedals0 -
How's the frame wrap working out? Wearing okay and does it eliminate chain slap noise (or near enough)?
Was thinking of going the inner tube route for my Carbon 456 I've just built, but weighing a spare tube, it's 250g. I'd not normally be concerned, but part of the reason for the Carbon was to at least shave a bit of weight off. I'm not after a weight weenie, but want something reasonably light.
I've only stuck on stuff I'm reusing at the moment mainly, and it's come in at 28.8lb. My alloy Nomad is 30!
Wheels though I think are a major part of the weight. Think I can get it down to 25, 26-ish without going carbon nuts, but adding 250g for a chainstay protector seems a lot.
P.S. Pedals - Vaults. Yes, expensive as hell, but got them for the Nomad and love them, so splashed out for them on the 456 too. Flat, big pins and lots of them, thin but solid.0 -

Sorry for the prolonged response, I haven't really checked the site since the down time, I have also used DMR V8's and I liked them but in all honesty I prefer the stuperstars they are roomier than the V8's and have loads of grip and the paint on them is holding up surprisingly well.0
