Can't wait to see this mate! I've got a carbon 456 that is a WIP too. Wifey is being strict and not letting me have it until my birthday in October...boo.

You building it yourself? I should make a thread for mine, as I'm allowed to buy bits, build it etc but can't ride it. I'll probably just get a build thread closer to the time :)
Out with the old, in with the new here.

Got the same frame, fork, headset and seatpost clamp. Mine will be built with an Alfine 8 on Mavic 717, hope front hub, XT cranks, thompson seatpost, Easton bars and stem, formula oro k18s. Picking the rear wheel up on Tuesday and waiting for a crown race and dropout bolts from On-One.
What height are you? I'm 5'11" and went for a 16" frame.

I went for the 16", I am 5'9 with a 31 inside leg, the nice guys at on-one have said if i find it to small i can swap it out for the 18". Really can not wait to get it, I should have it by Thursday next week.

My old rockhopper is going for it's last proper ride tomorrow around Gisburn Forrest.

Looking like a sweet build there, my only bit of advice would be to heli tape everywhere, i didn't do my seat tube and ended up with a big chip in the lacquer.

Here's my build thread if you interseted.

Helitape ordered yesterday from bike tart and arrived today, I also ordered Framewrap for a chainstay protector that also arrived today, in fact.......

I ordered several bits yesterday from 4 different suppliers and everything i ordered on a normal deliver turned up today..

    Superstar... pedals and grips

CRC... Hope clamp, MOWA Valve caps

Bike tart... frame wrap and helitape

Ebay... Gold rockshox stickers for the forks

I would recommend the first 3 on there service, Ebay can be a bit hit and miss

The guys at On One are pretty decent. I originally ordered a 16" Inbred and 120 Rebas and they swapped them out for the 456C and Revs.
    Hopefully the 16" will suit.

That's some nice bits that arrived today! Bet you were loving it.

I know October is a long way, but we're currently trying to redecorate almost a complete house before the 2nd child is born in November, so I've very little time anyway. It gives me time to say my farewell's to my gt :)

I'm 6'3 and got an 18" frame, got a 34" inside leg. Im sure I could have got a 20" frame, but I prefer a smaller frame. Will see how it all goes.

When you hoping to have it on the trails?

2nd child, congrats, I have 3, I should get the bike Wednesday/Thursday, I would need about 1 hour to fit the new bits admire it and take photos then it will be off for its maiden voyage, i wont waste time, I am off work till the following Monday so will make the most of it. But if i do find the frame is to small i will be sending it back for the 18".

That is gonna look mint :D, although a bit of a shame to see the 'hopper go :(
Not sure whether its a bit late to mention this but...

But still, the gold colour scheme will look the n**s! I think I've seen similair colours on a Carbon 456 on here :P...

Thanks, Yeah it is a shame i have enjoyed the bike, spend today going around Gisburn Forest on the RH had a blast, that was it's last voyage out, so now i am awaiting the new one, thanks for the link but i have already bought the new one and paid for it.

There is a similar one on here with the black and gold, that's where i got my inspiration from ;)

I though so... Oh well, it'll still be an awesome ride anyhow :D
I'm not sure I quite caught what was actually wrong with the 'hopper? :?:
And I've found the other thread now... and going by that alone it should look fantastic! :)

Initially I thought it was the rear brake causing the issue, I tried everything. swapping rear and front pads and rotor, New pads and rotor, realigning 1000,000 times. kicking it, throwing it from a cliff, everything i could thing of and just got more and more frustrated, i took it back to the shop 3 times and they told me there was nothing wrong with it, so i sent a vid to spesh and they told me there was an obvious issue, so back to the shop and they admitted there was a fault with my frame, and are giving me a full refund.

I am a little gutted as i loved the RH the size was perfect and so was the ride, but as the saying goes "Once bitten twice shy" so i decided not to get another spesh.

Looking forward to seeing the end result :) Look's like you maybe going all out with gold. Some gold Hope rotors would look nice or some gold colour Ashima rotors too. Just IMO keep the colour scheme clean.
Also what cables/housing are you using? If you want some clean lines then Jagwire do a very nice "carbon silver" colour which is kind of soft matt gold. I do think that would look great. Its the same on my latest build Nomad. http://jagwireusa.com/index.php/product ... lleur_Kits

Thanks for the tips Xgreygoose, Initially I am going for gold as i think the black and gold scheme is a good combo, I do not want to go OTT with bling just some subtle hints of gold, I am liking the idea of some gold rotors, are you talking about hope floating rotors?
  • Xgreygoose
    Xgreygoose Posts: 371
Aye, Hope floating rotors or to be abit different Ashima Air rotors which isn't too bad http://www.26bikes.com/parts/brake_rotors/nano2010
Yeah, no need to go OTT. Nice details of gold will always look good 8) And (maybe) some good quality gold bolts around your drive train

Toast, from the spec list looks like it's gonna be mint! What colour forks did you go for? Doesn't look like it'll be overdone on the gold from what you've posted so far, as long as you don't go for a gold stem too (not sure why but coloured stems just don't work for me).

Looking forward to pics and a ride report. Good choice on the SLX drivetrain, can't go wrong with that and the O-O riser bars I think are very similar to the RF Atlas..

lol @ gold stem, no the stem will be black, i opted for gold bars but changed that today to black bars as i will have gold lock rings on the grips and it the bars and lock rings were different shades it may have looked a bit daft. The forks are black RS Rev's. I will remove the original decals and replace them with 2xRS decals in Gold.

FAO Goose or anyone else in the know, I have been looking at some chainring bolts, why are they sold in 5's? and does anyone know if this look Ok

I order from clees cycles regularly mate and they do stock them in 4 s as well you prob just ordered the wrong ones, those are for five bolt chainsets usually road bike ones.

    you need these https://clee-cycles.co.uk/cc/catalog/pr ... aug5mt6fb5

They are good at exchanging so just send them back mate

Thanks just spoke with clee's and they informed me that the 5 pack is for a road bike and the 4 for MTB, But... They are the same size, and i paid less for the 5 than clees charge for 4 so i have a spare.
