    In my extensive experience the "talk about bikes" to Martini ratios need to be heavily weighted in favour of Martinis if the evening is to end in some degree of fumbling.

    Oh I don't know, my bike's pretty dirty, haven't given it a good rub down and re-lube for a while... Then of course there's the aforementioned Big Ring, helmets, latex tubes (vs butyl). Plenty of scope...

    Yep I sized you up from across the room and sidled across with my opening line. I'd spent ages plucking up the courage but you blew me out very quickly to go talk to Il Principe or someone else. I was devastated... Never quite recovered... Haven't been to The Morpeth since...
