  • The 2015s are proving hard to come by. Saw my first one in the flesh today at Soho Bikes - the 20 - and it was a thing of beauty.
  • Having been sold on the idea of hydro disc brakes for my next all-weather/hopefully-commuter-to-be bike, and having researched what's out there, the limited edition Equilibrium is looking like a pretty good deal. I wonder if a lighter, similarly priced version could be built up by buying the frameset and parts separately, however? I quite like the lime green of the complete build, but the grey disc frameset looks pretty smart to me.

Saw the new 20 with discs in the flesh today. Very nice. Expect the limited edition will be gorgeous.

(I know it's not an equilibrium)
How quick can he do the Kessel run on that?

If he can get the hyperdrive to work he could out run the big imperial peloton!
  • Recently picked up an Equilibrium....and it's driving me a) insane b) to painful injuries
I had a 54cm Kinesis that never felt right, aways a bit small feeling and so I bought a used Equilibrium in a 56.

To say I cant the fit right is an understatement!

I've transposed the measurements from my Scott Foil into this bike ( aware that different type of bike - not that it should matter ) and have replicated seat height, reach , etc. The Scott fits me like a glove. The Genesis....like an oversized straightjacket!

I'm 5'10 , 33 inseam and all the info says the 56 should be bang on. I'm having to run it with 45mm of spacers and an 80mm stem to get even close to a fit; I still feel too low down at the front - curiously the vertical floor to bar height ( including wheels ) on the Genesis is shorter than the Scott - clearly that's the area that is causing the issue,

Moving up to a 58 will just push the head tube away, but might improve the overall geometry , though 58 HAS to be too big surely?

Anyone else had sizing issues? Now nursing a hamstring strain after stupidly doing a 160K audax on the bloody thing!

I am a similar height to you and struggled to get comfortable.

Managed it in the end with a layback seatpost and a 28degree 110mm stem (specialized as it was the neatest looking).

Even then I looked like I was riding a bike 2 sizes too small.

I tried a 58 genesis and a 60cm CDF and both felt more comfortable.

Just as a note my seat height from midpoint of the BB is around 78cm

    Good luck

    S'funny, I'm 5ft9 and ride a 54. 10mm longer stem and it's absolutely fine...

  • Just goes to show how different we all are. I'm 5'10 and my 56 felt too long even with a 90mm stem.
  • Interesting. I had a bike fit that put me on a 58cm Equilbrium. I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam and have a 100mm stem fitted. I'd read lots about my height about being borderline between a 56/58cm - hence shelling out for the fitting and it was money well spent. The most comfortable bike I own.

I'm also building up a Kinesis Racelight soon and my measurements put me on a 57cm

Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.

I'm 5'9 and ride a size 58 Canyon with 100mm stem. This is after a bike fit and it fits me like a glove - have ridden 3000+ miles on it without so much as a saddle sore. Interestingly I looked at the Equilibrium geometry with the fitter and he thought it would be difficult to get any of the sizes to fit me properly.

    5'9 witha 58 Canyon?! I'm 5'9" with a 53 canyon!

My Equilibrium Disc Ti turned up yesterday. I know I'm spoilt with a couple of lightweight race bikes but boy the Equilibrium is heavy!

More than the other two! I've not got any scales but the Genesis site says 9.6kg, so kitted out it must be above 10kg?

Given that my old steel racer is around that, I dont think its too bad. lol

Di2 sounds rather posh for what will be a pretty hefty bike, but if you can afford it then why not?

I'm sorely tempted to build up a disc brake Equilibrium, but I might stick with Campag, which will mean TRP Spyres for now.

Does anyone know what the axle to crown measurement or fork length is for the equilibrium fork? …the old one that is as genesis claims that the new one is 1cm longer ….

    thanks!!

Looking at the disc equilibrium as a Winter bike replacement, does anyone know what the wheel drop out is? 130 or 135mm?

Thanks, thought it might be but always useful to have confirmation.

That's for the 2014 model which I picked up in the sale - if you're after the 2015 model you might want to double check with Genesis...!
  • Hi Guys

I've recently got a Genesis Equilibrium 10 2015. It has Conti Grand Sport Race 28c tyres on and I'm trying to fit SKS Chromoplastics 35mm.

The rear guard is very tight, i.e. it's touching, using the mounting bracket that attaches to the brake caliper. I've noticed there is an additional mounting point for a screw underneath where the brake mounts. I assume this is for guards, but can anyone point me in the direction of a photo of how I'd mount it onto that please?

    Cheers
    Kiel

I fitted SKS Longboards 35mm to my 2015 equilibrium 10 disc. I swapped the tyres to 25mm Michelin Pro 4 Endurance and it is a tight fit but they work.

As mine is the disk version there is no brake caliper to mount to so I had to drill a hole in the mudguard and screw it straight into the hole underneath the bridge.

Had her a couple of years now, although just made some pretty big changes...

Custom built H Plus Son Archetype rims with DT Swiss 350 hubs, tubeless; as well as pretty much a new drive chain. Went for Brooks Cambium bar tape, but the stuff is so thin I left the snakeskin stuff on underneath for comfort. Rides like its never ridden before, like having a brand new bike just a lot cheaper!

Just posted this in The "Your Road Bikes" forum but thought I'd add it to this thread for the benefit of any others considering a disc incarnation.

Only had a couple of 15 mile rides to date but I'm mightily pleased with it so far. Planning a sportive or two later in the year but need to build my fitness up after the winter hiatus and some weight gain due to holidays.
