But let's face it, bike riders are not a clever bunch, few are uni graduate or anything that requires some intelligence.
Sir, i would agree with you that Cavy is an inbred village idiot who lacks the intelligence to do anything off a bike. In fact, I would bet that he has a twitter ghost writer . . . probably his PR team that he always contradicts in live interviews.0 -
PMSL at that picture Good stage today.....enjoyed that bits that I saw.0

Bit of a generalisation there but like many sportspeople, they get into their profession young and dedicate their teens/twenties attempting to become a success.
I presume you know Cavendish well that you have such a low opinion of him that you regularly post with your views or is it that all you know of him is what the media shows you?M.Rushton0 -

Excellent descent by Nibali, great climbing by Garzelli who is, I think, about my age  Seven and a half hours of agony and a deserving winner. Just a shame that Bertie is so far ahead of the rest....
Agreed, watching Nabili descend was class...if it looks quick on tv he must have been flying (mucho big testis)My Marmotte 2012 Blog:

I do admire that even the blinkered FF classes Bertie as only having won 2 Tours ...0

Were I designing a GT, I would always have one stage with a finish straight off a descent.
It is as much of a gift as climbing and sadly ignored.
Best of all, you can see how a great downhiller forces a climber into attacking early.

And yet.....he was still intelligent enough to spurn your advances.....'cos that's what this is all about, right? He knocked you back didn't he?

Agreed. It's seldom rewarded. Wasn't there a stage during last year's edition where Nibali broke on a descent and made it stick. The Tour had a few one year that were followed by long flats that negated any advantage that could have been built. Very pointless. Finding a middle ground can't be too difficult, surely.0 -

I was frustrated at the complicity. What was really telling is the fade AC did in the last 800 meters when it appeared that he was flagging and Scarponi came back from probably 650 meters behind to, I don't know, 150 meters behind.
Now if AC had been left to spend 8-10 more kms in front over the last 40 kms, he would have faded a lot earlier. He might have died a bit more Garzelli style.
His team was nowhere and I mean nowhere so AC did a good job like Cav did and used the teams around him well. I'm pretty sure Riis had an envelope of EUR50s for Gianetti (or whoever the Andrino DS is).
How do you beat AC? Let him dangle more.
He's a p**sy b/c a) he was gesticulating all the time for others to take up the pace setting, and b) like Ballan he shouldn't be racing. But that's another thread. When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -

Completely disagree.
There are many forms of intelligence, with traditional IQ being only one of them (and IQ is not necessarily required to graduate university: motivation and work ethic are more important).
I was an elite sportsman when I was younger and the committment, planning, effort and motivation to be good at anything is the same, whether it is sport, academics or socially. Only the aims are different.
After switching from sport to academics in my mid 20s, I don't think I worked any different in study than I did in sport. I just changed the amount of time I spent in that area.
Anyone who is elite at one thing can be elite at another, academics or sport.
That's my experience anyway and I'm no better than anyone else, so I know it's also true for others.
Elite cyclists are just as clever as other professionals, they just develop a different type of clever.0 -

“It’s too much. You should see the faces of the riders – they’re just dead. Imagine if it had been raining the entire day,” said Garmin-Cervélo sport director Bingen Fernández. “Do we need this? It’s one thing to race eight hours in a classic, but to race eight hours after what we’ve been through in this Giro is too much. A shorter stage would have delivered the same result, probably be more spectacular and it would be more humane. That’s the Giro. It’s crazy, but you know that coming in.”Contador is the Greatest0

So what you are saying is if the whole field had combined with one purpose - the make Contador lose - then he would have problems ?
I agree with you there were times when Contador got help from other riders - but that's racing - he put himself in the position where it was in their interests to help - whether that was to advance their GC position or even to repay a favour for winning a stage earlier in the race.

Depends if they want the fans to continue to watch or not.
If the PT teams don't fancy the course, they should be given the option not to participate.
If they turn up, they should shut up.
I didn't watch yesterday live after their choice got the nod.
As if 2009 wasn't bad enough.
I'm sure they think tonight's AToC stage is thrilling."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Your ability to relate a brutal mountain stage back to a certain sprinter who is no longer even in the race is really quite impressive if a little scary. It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.0 -
I read that Russ Downing had retired. Vexed for him if it's true, as I'd desperately wanted him to do well in his first GT.0
