I don't even think Nibs will make it back on.
He will have to ascend, a la, Zonc, just to save dropping a packet.........but his tank isn't exactly full.

Sure it's a risk of 1st or 7th but what's the point in 2nd place? He wants to win.

What's the point of 2nd place behind someone who might get a ban and lose the jersey in a couple of weeks? Hmm, let's think.....

Come on -- the point is he had no chance of getting first. He wasn't going to make up 3 minutes on that decent.

Sure he wants to win, they all do. It's a bike race.

It was dumb -- CAS may declare that Bertie did all of this for nothing.

An effort on the descent like that one doesn't expend much more energy than taking it easy.

It's more about technique and commitment.

Even a toasted Nibs is incredible down hill. Made up a 1 minute gap.

I agree that it was all in, but what else could he do? Nobody else is prepared to risk anything to even try and beat Contador. I'm really bored of riders colluding with guys they should be trying to beat for minor places.

Am I in frenchies camp now?

Please -- you're not going to take 3 minute from Bertie by a technique on a decent.

Bertie knew it was coming, and responded.

He didn't have to make up 3 minutes. There's more climbing stages ahead. If he'd made up 1.5 min, he'd have been close enough to make it a race inn the later stages.

Nibs was already struggling somewhat prior to his daring descent. Way too much emphasis is being placed on his effort to distance Contador.

Bakunin, the idea was surely to get a gap that Contador would have to work to shut down on the next climb?

    I understand.

If he can finish with Bert, fair play. But if drops like a stone...
