Quicdk update and some vids from the weekend. Northern Monkey and me decided to hit Afan The Wall. I've ridden it once before but the updates they've made have only improved an already outstandinf trail (apart from all the bloody styles :x )

Ben was on the HT. Pleasure of a ride and hopefully get back there soon

had a session at Cwmcarn today with Ben (cheers for the vid again dude)

Weather was perffect, sunny and warm but not too hot, although the Nukeproof armour was still soaked after one run down the DH  (after pedalling up in it to be fair). Pushed up to the road drop for the first run, realised on the way down my rear pads were on the metal which destroyed all confidence and had a pretty sketch run down. Then pedalled up the road to the top of the DH. The run down was derp as well, I didn't feel hooked up at any point, wasn't hitting my lines properly etc plus one of the thru axle clamps came lose on the forks too which didn't help. Enjoyable ride but I need to sort myself and prep the bike properly before I ride

    Plus buy new

    Shoes
    Shorts
    Pads!

    off the CRC/Superstar I go..

    Quote of the ride

Ben: You're like a vending machine

and the one pic I took

    dh260212.jpg

Not sure why the pic ^^ has been cropped :? ah well no one wants to see Ben anyway..

Emailed Loco Tuning for a price on a fork service and upgrade. These forks dive like Tom Daley and are pretty dangerous to ride at this point. Need to sort em' or get rid..

Are they the basic "R" version? I've sworn never to ride a fork without compression damping adjust anymore. Maybe you could try putting a heavier weight of oil in them?

Yar... I had the Fox 36 R on the Canyon with the same issues so swapped out asap!
They really do dive, its a horrible feeling! There is just not stance to them, as soon as you roll over a pebble, the travel squashes right through to the bottom and it appears that they get worse over time!

My mate has the Lyrik R and it does this, all i ever see is it compressed to almost bottom out on fairly tame trails.

James - it was the PS3 of 1987

Forgotten all about it but saw it earlier on Pistonheads. Oh the memories! (of annoying the sh1te out of my parents with gun badly replicated noises)

Coil forks btw, but I wouldn't recommend them (at least in standard form)

Ben - we could bring the fury upon CC, it would be like Iraq with sheep

would it upset you if i said the reason i don't know what that is is that i was still 4 years "unborn" in 1987

Does not compute, no one can be younger than me, in still like, 12.... aren't I? :|

They're either going to be upgraded and have the FIT ... fitted (£280) or replaced with dual crowns, but both of those options are some way off, bit of a pain as I have no confidence in then whatsoever at the mo

yes my friend... you are 12.. with a few years extra experience ;)
well hurry up and decide what you're going to do as we need updates lol
    .
    .
Just to clarify what is FIT exactly? Is it just improved Compression/rebound adjustment for out on the trails etc. ?

(I'm not particularly clued up when it comes to suspension etc  )

    Squarepants Posts: 1,019
Hi J, sorry for the lateness of my reply, not much been going on here lately

Yea my understanding is the FIT gives options for hi and lo speed compression adjustment.

Well had a nice little skid around Cwmcarn today with one of the boys, not who I usually ride with but was interesting to see a 'different' kind of bike out on the trail.

Had a little play around on the bottom of the DH to warm up and got some very average shots in

    securedownload1-1.jpg

    securedownload.jpg

    securedownload3.jpg

Then up the Twrch to the FR section and on up to the DH

    securedownload5.jpg

    securedownload4.jpg

    securedownload2-1.jpg

    securedownload7.jpg

I got a good deal from On One on a front Kenda Nevegal 2.5 Stick-E and a Schwalbe Fat Albert F for the rear, £23 for both delivered, result. Little bit draggy but loads of grip and quickly got used to the setup.

Then the inevitable happened, always always always get a pinch flat on the long table top towards the bottom of the DH :| it was the final run of the day so not too bothered, short push to the car park.

If any one would like to see what a flat tyre looks like I took the liberty of capturing the moment

    securedownload1.jpg

Good loop, not taxing at all but happy to scrub the tyres in and get the most of the sunshine while it lasts..

    That's about it!

Not much of an update but haven't been inclined to post on this thread much tbh..

Been riding mostly with NM quite regularly. Hanzz could do with a service but I'll round to that soon enough

Few little things been done, changed stem and grips for SS

    photo1.jpg

Stem sharpens things up nicely and looks very well made, grips are... grippy..

also got myself one of these

    photo2.jpg

(GoPro not the helmet  )

Amazing bit of kit and really liking it now, it's the Hero 2 version and it works a treat, easy enough to edit in Windows Movie Maker too. Settings are 720 48fps

Few vids i've made so far, 2nd may contain swears

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU5kYs66JJs

both said on the 2nd vid we weren't really on it, you can prob tell  we'd ridden up so legs weren't 100%

  • Yay, I've just ordered one of those too (gopro, not helmet, bike or northern monkey). Got mine from the states, £350 for the motorsport version (I'd never use the helmet mount, and the suction cup mouonting that comes with the motorsport version means I can mount it to the ff helmet if I want to) wth a chesty mount, lcd backpack, battery backpack, wi-fi backpack, wi-fi remote, 32g sd card and a couple of lens filters.

Can't wait for it to arrive so I can try it out.

Fair play Cat that's a bargain with all of that inlcuded, I'm after the motorsport suction mount myself for use with the weekend toy car.

I've used a sticky mount for my FF, not sure how big the suction cup is to fit on a FF tbh but it may fit!?

They've said the suction mount can pull dents out of car panels so it should be pretty suctioney!

    Look forward to the vids

Well first update in 8 months. Not much happened.

Hanzz has been serviced by The Bicycle Doctor Porth and feels a lot better. Forks are massively different/improved, surprised how you don't notice things if they go over time (saying that I knew they were pretty awful for the last 2/3 months!)

Made a few edits with NM

    Short edit by Ben

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv8QTnMkBCY

    Long meandering edit by me

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdK0Rt1vyKE

lots more @ FoD etc so feel free to watch more on YT.

I've never really invested in proper bike apparel apart from the obvious' so decided to pick some stuff up and have a colour scheme change so purchased

    null.jpg

along with Nukeproof jersey and Royal gloves which are going back due to wrong colour on the gloves and deciding I'm going t-shirt still on the 'top' front.. Got the carbon 661 lid for half price as it apparently has manufacturing marks, not that I can see! it's suuuuuuweeeeet! The NP knee guards are amazingly comfortable, I'd recommend to anyone.

Also got a pretty sweet 13' Fox trailpack for a little under retail, very happy with it. Only gripe is the waist strap sin't cushioned but not a deal breaker

    null.jpg

So that's the last 18 months! Getting out more now and enjoying it. Should be a good summer

I've tested my GoPro suction cup mount up to about 130mph (upright and at 90 degrees) with no problems. As long as they're properly mounted on a non porous surface they're rock solid (they don't seem to stick properly to matt paint finishes though).

Good to hear, I hope the suction mount won't need to be tested much past 130 on my car but good to know it's got redundancy built in.

cracking day with NM @ Cwmcarn. Decided to have an XC day @ CC after rain stopped play in Rudry finding some natural stuff; would have been far too sodden after an early morning downpour.

Glad we did as it turned out to be a cracking ride, was nice to actually do XC around the full (well almost) red as we've been pushing up / DH for a good while now. Energy levels were up and weather was pot on. We had a good pace all the way around and set personal bests on the last sections of the red.

    null-1.jpg

    null-3.jpg

    null-2.jpg

For reference this is at the start of giant finger!

Also first ride with some actual bike gear, up until now I've been pseudo avoiding proper gear for.. some reason. Got some Royal shorts, nukeproof knee pads and a new fox trail pack. shorts and knee pads were perfect, well worth the investment. Haven't tried the carbon camber in anger yet

    null.jpg

Fox trail pack is nice also, it's lacking a padded lap strap but that's not the end of the world.

    null.jpg

here's to more good weather, good company ( ) and more good riding
