Bloomin' typical. I'll take the credit for ending his almost streak.

Dropped him in favour of Petacchi in my Fantasy Cycling League team

But you get the extra 5pts for Petacchi leading the points classification on the (road.cc) fantasy league

Nice work Cav! He said no stage wins would be a failure.

Giro jersey is so cool. Glad he now has given up the yellow shades. Check the shoes as well! Ha.

What do people think about those accusations he hitched 10km of ride off the team car up etna?

Rubbish, he's climbing really well this year. Did you not see him drop that BBC reporter with ease!

Lots of sprinters have done the same thing over the years...can't believe he could possibly get away with doing it for that long though!

Couldn't give a monkeys. Doesn't affect the overall; something all riders would do if given the opportunity and able to get away with it. That is if it's true.

Aye, Ventoso (if he was the one making the accusation and its true) is just bitter he didn't get away with it..

No why would Ventoso be seeking to get a faster sprinter kicked out of the race?

Can't see Cav being able to get away with hanging on to a car for longer than 10 metres.

Doesn't have to affect the overall for it not to be fair. Cav only made the cut by 30 seconds on Etna. Assuming he was hanging from a car (and several riders have mentioned the fact) he's only still in the race because of that.

If he did hang on cars I'm amazed there isn't footage with all the media that follow him around

They wont do anything about it, otherwise they'd have to throw scarponi out as well for his riding the few days before that when he had a tow bar fitted to his stem and the team car.

AAARRGH. nothing worse than a cavy interview after a win. luckily, i can't make out half of what he says, and the other half is usually four letter words. this just ruined my day.

Ventoso claimed Cavendish had been towed up Mount Etna by a car in Sunday's stage after finishing 25 seconds inside the race cut-off point. Cavendish's HTC-Highroad team refused to comment on the allegations.

Garmin sprinter Murilo Fischer also accused Cavendish of receiving assistance up the Sicilian volcano on his Twitter page.

"Incredible, he says he wants to win a stage at any cost and he does 10km holding onto a car," said the Brazilian.

And Ventoso criticised race organisers for not disqualifying Cavendish.

"It's shameful, everyone else kills themselves to get to the top inside the cut off time while someone else holds onto a car without the authorities intervening," said the Team Movistar rider.

(Yup, not only is Cavy a dangerous, disrespectful, and classless rider, he is a cheater. Big asterisk on his "win" today) (my day just got better)

    Go Cav.

Literally can't wait to get home and watch the man dish some out to Petacci et al.

Cavendish was the last rider to cross the line at the very back of the sprinters “gruppetto”, finshing 26’35” behind Contador and making the time limit by just 25 seconds. Aussie sprinters Robbie McEwen (RadioShack) and Graeme Brown (Rabobank) were not so lucky though, and didn’t make it; they finished outside the cut and were eliminated from the race.

Many – if not most – sprinters will take the odd liberty to make it over the mountains as best they can, but expect to be penalised if they push things too far. It may seem a harmless thing to do, as they are neither challenging for the overall classification or that particular stage; it can be galling for their opponents to be beaten by them in subsequent days though, when their legs are fresher, or if they should have been eliminated altogether.

Cavendish declined to comment on Ventoso’s allegations before the start.

Where's the pictures/video? they would be all over the media by now...

interesting how you pay no attention to petacchi's background...

I would take the "He declined to comment" bit out now though as he did comment post race to eurosport saying he always has cameras and race com on him whenever he stops be it for a wheel or to take a piss and he has always had these accusations and they are rubbish. He was commenting saying HTC have fair play flags on their numbers simply because they are not penalized for such offences as they don't do it.

He also mentioned he was with russ downing on that stage and they all killed themselves to get over the climb.

I am a cav fan, personally I don't want to think he does anything worse than anyone else, just seems strange there are a few saying it. Oscar periero (who wasn't there obviously) also seems to support the claims on twitter, like it's a known thing about cav.

How many pictures do you see of the laughing group? Very very few.

Same thing in the Tour last year where people reported him hanging onto cars.

ventoso finished 2 mins ahead of cav and is moaning, there were 7 riders who finished on the same time as cav surely they would have noticed something....sometimes the boy just cant do right.

But if it was a known phenomenon, surely there would be others out to 'catch' him ?

If he has done it the he should be penalised... But there'd need to be proof no?

Of course. Also, I'm not sure the organisers would want to chuck a big name like Cavendish out of the race, so he'd probably get a slapped wrist and fine, or something

If he did then he should be penalised it. It is cheating, end of.

Fignon mentioned it in the Tour last year (as Cav was also accused of extensive holding onto cars) and was definitely not of the opinion that it was acceptable.
