  • Just got back from a great weekend in Valenciennes, not really sure exactly what happened in the race from watching at the roadside, but I can still taste the dust, cough, cough...

Anyway, vid from sector 14 at Brillion...

Also I'll ask my other question again..would Cancellara have known that JvS had a puncture before he made his last move?

As to your second question, it's very unlikely. It wasn't noticeable to the TV viewer and Leopard didn't have anyone there to see it first hand

    Another stupid newbie question

On several occasions when Cancellara put the pressure on and Thor was trying to keep up, he wasn't actually wheel sucking/drafting but actually on the other side of the road a bike length behind.

    Why?

They'd chosen different lines over the cobbles. And you want to keep going in a more or less straight line (well, let the bike go where it wants to go in as straight a line as it will let you) - Unlike on the normal road, you can't just move over into someones wheel on the stones

Hypothosis - I recon Canc would have done the Roubaix Flanders double had he had a stronger team.

Canc suffered in the same way Boonen did last year - only he was a little better.

    yeah I reckon so

leo-pard needed a second fiddle and/or a man in the break

“If I had stopped for a coffee, everyone would have stopped as well,” Cancellara said.

    Shudder.

Those legs belong with someone aged 89+, sitting in a high backed chair in a nursing home, watching Countdown.

Steptoe rises again... At least he's making some effort to fix his bike, and not just looking at it in a confused fashion like he did in the Giro last year :)

Some great pictures here of the wacky racers.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

That picture of Kevin Ista is superb, looks like some of the old 60s photos. They must be coughing dust up for days afterwards - can't be healthy!

"This race is really something for real men. For me, there's only the bottom line: Roubaix is cool. My body has never produced so many endorphins before. I've never experienced anything that hard before, but the elation at arriving to the velodrome in Roubaix is a rush."

"It's only disappointing that I fell out of the lead group because of a crash. I'm absolutely happy with my 19th place finish in my first participation though."

"With my set-up, I had more luck this time compared to Flanders. 28 wide tires, 6 bars of air in them, shock absorption in the frame [through Specialized's Zertz inserts], comfortable, and safe."

Seeing the muscles in the arms move like that and the close up of the wheel on the cobble is crazy

The best stuff in there is the "faked" (ie, non-race) footage. But it's still well done.

Video of Boonen's troubles, via Podiumcafe. Rick probably shouldn't watch:

FF, if you find any more slo-mo stuff could you post them, please? I remeber one filmed at the Arenberg with bottles flying.

    It's around 100 seconds....

Wouldn't have been so long had Terpstra been there.

Both Vaughters and Farrar have an issue when speaking English. They sound like Flemish or Spanish guys speaking english as a second language. They go up at the end of each sentence and put on a strange accent. Sounds like legally blonde...
