    Garmin tactics odd again.
I can't see the point of sending a rider up the road, so close to the d'Arenberg, as the pace will soon be fierce.

He asked his girlfriend to marry him when he finished...

    She seemd quite pleased.

    Bloody hero.

    (via Vaughters on twiiter)
Which is why tubs are still the racer's choice. Try riding on a flat clincher for 5km, especially over cobbles and around a track!

So glad to see Garmin win a classic this year! CHEERS to the entire team.

Also glad to read an entire pro-road article in cyclingnews and velonews that does NOT mention Cavendish. LOL to those who think Cavy could actually win Paris-Roubaix or Flanders. see e.g., "We've got three outsiders for this race: Mark Cavendish...[Cavendish] could realistically target victory in the future." "He (Cavendish) ticks a lot of boxes to make a good Roubaix rider in his own right." HTC-Highroad sports director Allan Peiper

See also “I dream of winning Paris-Roubaix and also the Tour of Flanders . . . to mange that, I need to gain in strength”. Mark Cavedish.

Not only will he need to gain in strength, he will need the race directors to take out the cobbles, flatten the route, and design the last 20K to allow Cavy's team to pull him up and lead him out.

Cheers to Johan van Summeren's strength and determination!

    "BEST DAY EVER"

    From Garmin web site.

"With several world-class sprinters, classics specialists and the world champion on the roster, Garmin-Cervelo had several cards to play on the always unpredictable roads of Paris-Roubaix. In the end, Johan provided the biggest surprise of the day (and tallest winner of the race at 6'6") by getting into the breakaway, controlling the pace and attacking on his own when the time was right. As if that's not enough, he rode the final 5 km with a flat tire. And to top it all off, after crossing the finish line for the biggest victory of his career, he proposed to his girlfriend, Jasmine. She said yes, securing the title of Best. Day. Ever."

Wow a Euskatel rider finished! Ridic that they have to ride a race like this.

Also Chavanel finished not too far down even with that bad crash.

I wouldn't mind Thor winning his first and in the stripes but only if he rides like a champion and a Wolrd champion at that.
I had every confidence Thor would win today as I presumed he was the guy who wanted it most but I was wrong.

I agree FF because that's what I was saying to the TV and I respect riders that work.
Today I lost my respect for Thor Hushovd. (read on)

31 Km's to go and Spartacus says Bollox you think I'm stupid so you do some work.
Yeh, Yeh we all saw that but did you see the next bit when the cars arrived and the TV Lecturer was talking about Spartacus telling the Garmin guy to bollox also. (before the 30 to go sign)

Well now, when you watch that bit again you should be watching Thor's conversation with the people in the front of the Garmin car and my estimate is that Thor is being told that Plan B is about to unfold because of the lack of effort from the World Champion.
The thump down on his handlebars is the clue to Thor's involvement afterwards as he beats Flecha for 8th place because he had the Sulks like a spoilt brat.

Vansummeren was the other lotto guy who got taken out with hoste by Flecha in '09.

Anyway, this season officially demonstrates why flat classics are sh!t hot.

He wasn't taken out by Flecha, he stopped for Hoste, and in quite a spectacular way, too.

A well deserved win for him. Cancellara could have won, had it not been for his ego.

I've been out since page 1 with the kids... did I miss something? :?

Bloody weather... if it had been peeing down I could've sat in front of the telly all afternoon.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

Brilliant Plan B strategy by Garmin. Put Van Summeren out front. Allowing Thor to cruise behind Cancellara. What was Cancellara thinking? Did he assume that Thor would attack his team mate (and eventual winner). If the gap was bridged, Thor would have had help in the last 5K. Well done Garmin.
  • Spartacus rides into 2nd. Champion.

Podium finishes at Milan San Remo, Flanders and Paris-Roubaix in one season - that would be a dream result for anyone other than Cancellara.

    Cheers, Andy

the fact VS did drop the rest and win means thor sitting on chinny wasn't dishonest

it was up to ballan to share the work with fabian.

garmin made the right choice.. they won

In a way garmin cervelos large roster of good riders opened the race up for the second tier

Thor did the right thing. Why help Canc when there's a Garmin guy up the road?

Thor also did a little fist pump celebration when he crossed the line. He may have been faking it, but why bother?

The only mistake he made was relying on Flecha to hold Canc's wheel 5kms out - Flecha didn't have it and Canc got the gap. Up to that point, Thor had been able to hold Spartacus's wheel on each attack.

Sorry if it's already been covered some where else but i couldn't see it, but what bike was JvS riding? obviously a Cervelo one but the tubes looked pretty skinny on it and i didn't recognize it.

I assumed by that point Thor had been told JvS was home and dry

I wonder how JvS felt when his DS shouted in his earpiece that Cancellara was coming for him........

I suspect it's a standard R5, just in a huge size making the tubes look skinny in proportion.

Nah, it was an R3. According to garmin twitter they were all on R3s.

Interestingly, Omega Pharma's Canyons were the alloy Ultimate AL.
