Looks like Bjarne Riis in the team car afterwards :-)

Great ride by Cancellara. This was basically him against the rest of the riders and the sad thing is he still made 3rd after exploding. Smart ride by Nuyens and Chavanel (he was clearly stronger than Boonen). Also, what's up Garmin?
  • Suprised how much time Cancellara lost on the Kapelmuur, couldn't believe how quickly the clock was counting down the gap. Did he sit up or something? Still seemed very strong at the finish. The only rider able to get a gap after Gilbert was chased down.

There are wins and there are wins. Nuyens got a win. If you mention Flanders 2011 2 years from now, people wont remember him.

It was a top race, with a great finish. Just being stronger than everyone else isn't enough. I'll remember this one far longer than any predictable "Fab rides off the front and puts two minutes into everyone".

Really?? Fabains ride will go down in history, he destroyed the field last year and everyone was just watching in amazement!! No one could believe what he was doing last year.

I agree with FF, in a couple of months everyone would have forgot about Nuyens. But they will be talking about Fabians rides at Flanders and P-R last year for years and years.

Was that Ian Stannard coming in the next big group. Great riding by him if it was.
Why? Cuz he's British or on a British team? I think Chavanel rode well. Now THAT was a ride. He rode better than Gilbert and a lot better than Boonen and the other favourties.

Well he didn't really lose time so much as sit up and decide to get caught. He knew he'd have to have another go possibly on the Bosberg or later.

Cancellara sat up about 3/4 times in the race - between the Muur and the Bosberg when everyone was on his wheel, then when chasing down Gilbert when no one would work for the first 1 km or so.

His pissed of sip from his bottle just before the last turn on to the finishing straight was very telling - he was peeved. But hey, what does he expect? An armchair ride to the finish?

    GP Indurain won by

    1 Samuel Sanchez Gonzalez (Spa) Euskaltel-Euskadi 4:42:47
2 Alexandr Kolobnev (Rus) Katusha Team 0:00:02
3 Fabian Wegmann (Ger) Leopard Trek 0:00:07
4 Ryder Hesjedal (Can) Team Garmin-Cervelo
We know that, so what's it got to do with today.

I still have a bad feeling like I've (we) have been robbed this afternoon after so much expectations..
He beat Geraint Thomas last week to win the Dwars Door Vlaanderen.

I suppose because nobody saw this endgame.
Good Luck to him, he is now a made man in Belgium till he dies.

Do you think? I think this is the first time i ve seen the other teams properly chase after Canc has gone on the attack! Usually they just sit up, Garmin style, and go...huh, Race for second it is then...

Finally the Peleton has grown a set and said, Not today Spartacus! Hence we find out that he is human after all (or they ve all got batteries in the down tube this year!!)

Ha, quick find, chapeau. I was thinking when they wen't up it if someone would find the picture of him there again.

Yes because he's both British and riding for a British team. Plus he rode so well at G-W last weekend which must have been a huge drain on him then worked hard for the team today and still looked like he came in one of the lead groups.

Is it so wrong that I mentioned him? Or because he is British am I not allowed to acknowledge riders who do well.

    Sporza interview with Cancellara...

    On the Muur...

Had a bad day - had cramp, did nt drink enough

New Cobbles make things strange (???)

    Believes in special moment

Still went away with Sylvain, is pleased

Was nt Superman (commentator was suggesting that "Superman is a human being after all"

Just Bike races, could loose could win - Still will look back on it as a good race

Weather as warmer than predicted (it certainly is in NL) Tied to pick up bottles from other teams at feed stations but no one let him have any

Understood Sylvain sitting behind him at the time, but now he knows BMC were pulling with 6 riders "Superman cannot beat 6 riders" Tried to ask for help, think they would have gone to the finish line but Sylvan would have won. Thinks QS were afraid of him dropping Sylvain on the Muur and were in part waiting for Boonen

  • What a great race! Chavanel was surely the man of the race, closely followed by Cancellara, whose handshake with Chavanel towards the end said it all.

Nyens and Chavanel don't speak in English obvously but Nyens just looks overjoyed and overwhelmed...Chavanel looks ready to murder!

Boonen is being pretty magnanamous from what I can interpret (which is not much)

Chavanel and Gilbert were my riders of the day for at least taking the race to the others - if Gilbert had hung-on until the sprint he would probably have taken it rather than attacking on the Bosberg. Garmin were a huge fail - JV must be wincing after his words.

Not sure if it was a handshake, rather a Madison-like pull to help with taking turns at the front.

Thanks. I too think Chavanel should have worked and they could have gone 1-2 and have their names etched on people's minds for ever. Not sure how much Chavanel was being told to not ride, wait etc. Bloody radios.

The bottle thing was odd - not sure why it took so long for him to get one from his team. Definitely not sure why he team didin't have someone with bottles where all the the other teams did - fail.

    43km/h an hour average.

Stannard was 50th. Thomas 10th. Large group coming in only 1.24 down in a race as selective as this.

Oss 18mins down. Sagan, no finish.

Most folks here would rate knowing who Nick Nuyen's is, as common knowledge.
We are doing quite a lot, cycling-wise, too.

  • 43 km hr for 256km over those roads. (I see that the girls did half the distance and still only averaged a little over 36 km/hr). Yup, the Flanders is a real hard man's race.

Speaking of which, it is just a week to Paris-Roubaix. Hurrah!
