They don't seem to be stickers, they appear to be painted on or something :?

Nics are fine on there (I'm using the 2.25 ones). You do lose some height as you'd expect, but with it being FS it's not so bad.

Looking damn fine sir. Was going to ask you - I'm about to do the swap to 9mm/10mm Superstar skewers from my Hopes, have you noticed much difference? Reckon it will make a big difference to the front, which is already pretty stiff TBH but I'd like to improve it a bit more ahead of Passportes........
  • Got to be honest Andy, I only went out on a handful of proper rides before switching anyway, and since I've switched I've not had chance to do a proper test.

Plus, when I do get out for a proper ride, it'll be on the new wheels, so any change would be difficult to peg down).

I went for the bigger skewers (which are fairly heavy too) because I'm a fat knacker so need the extra peace of mind. Like you said, the front is already remarkably stiff, especially for QR.

As for the rear, I changed them on my old bike from QR to 10mm and I did notice the difference.

Either way, I'd say for the £50 or so you'll pay to convert both hubs and buy the skewers, it's gotta be worth it.

Look at it like this, it's not gonna make it any worse is it. :D

Cool - more than anything for me it's to slightly tighten up the front, when I switched from titanium skewers to Hope steel ones I noticed a marked improvement, especially around the super twisty singletrack I ride a lot, but of course the whole Alps thing is a big consideration now too!

Think you have just convinced me....

Must admit I was an easy sell there! Had kind of hit a dead end with the bike - in a good way though, there was literally nothing I wanted to change, it's that damn good. Then I saw these new bigger skewers and it makes sense....

I know exactly what you mean!

If you saw the old Mmmbop (and before that the 456) I was constantly changing stuff, upgrading stuff, swapping stuff about. With this I can honesly say I'm all done. The only thing I may or may not change in the future are the bars. But if I was to do so, it would purely be because I was feeling a bit flush and fancied something a bit shiny.

Those who know me will know that it's a pretty big deal for me to say there's nothing I want to change/replace. It just never happens.

I'm desperate to go for a ride, but I hate riding in high wind, it just sucks all the fun out of it (and there are not really any sheltered spots round here).

i know the pain of saying im finished yet deep down inside i knew i was deluded and lying to myself. tis a heavy burden we carry but together we can try to overcome this affliction. egging on a serial bike pimper is not big and its not clever, but it is always better to spend the money of others than to blow your own wad.

Whats the build quality like on the wheels mate? Have ordered myself the stans crest deal from Superstar, and have heard mixed reviews about the builds since!
  • Tolk - Seems to be spot on, of course time will tell but initial impressions are very good.

Cool, can't wait for mine to get here, will be glad to see the back of the xt hubs, fiddly feckers! Having my current frame powder coated at the moment though, so won't be able to use them right away.
  • Most impressed with the new wheels / skewers / tyres etc.

First long ride on the Edison today, loop of just under 32mi from my house up over a few big climbs, some singletrack, fireroad, rocky bits, jumpy bits etc. A proper workout for both me and the bike.

Wheels held up VERY well indeed!
Extremely stiff, but nice and light with the tubeless setup.
They took a proper beating on some of the rocky bits, and already have plenty of battle scars. They're still perfectly true and evenly tensioned though, no dings or flat spots or anything.
Hubs are starting to get a bit louder though.

    Highlights:

Panorama from top of one of the climbs, didn't quite line the 1st shot up properly, but you get the idea.

Babies head descent, goes on like this for about a mile.

Jammy git! What a day to get put riding! Looks like you had a awesome day? Why would a Newcastle supporting cow be on your island?? Tourist maybe but no need for the scarf in this weather?

Those coes are still dotted around are they? Hmm. Been wandering what the deal was with them. There were loads of them in funky psychedelic colours when we were over on the island.
  • It was a stunning day, best day of they year so far. Far too nice to go to work :D

The cows were actually done by some artists a few years back. All sorts of different coloured ones, including one "Cowasaki" (get it?). After they'd finished with them, they auctioned them all off for charity. Most went to businesses, but a few went to individuals.

    Them's the ones!
Since then, I've seen the odd one or two scattered around cities in the mainland too, I presume they must have been bought in the auction from the Manx artist or something.

He's from the isle of Man, it says so right under his image.

There's quite a few folk from Scotland here though, but I get the impression that the majority come from the midlands
