nice colour though and the extra weight may come in handy if your bike decends as well as you say.

  • Not after another shouty bike though. For that reason, I'm out.

If I was to get another wheelset, it'd most likely involve some DT Swiss and some Stans Flow. If I reeeealy felt the urge for more colour, it'd be superstar hubs with Stans Flow.

It's a bit early to say, but so far, the wheels are doing well. They feel nice and solid. Not sure of the weight exactly, somewhere around 2kg I think.

i actually like alex rims. built some road wheels with them and had a heavy duty set on my old giant faith. they make some quality wheelsets but you dont see many of them about. as for your bike i think you should trash them wheels then buy a set of the superstar lime green hubs on flows, not too shouty and sub 2kilo. im thinking of a set of red superstar hubs with some stans arch rims with some tubeless ready nobby nics. after slating full suss ive got to admit i flew round llandegla much much fast and didnt feel half as beat up as usual. if the weather hold may do whinlatter this weekend.

  • Hehe, wrong type of green (luckily for my visa).

Just changed the pads in the Oros over to SS Kevlar ones and that's PLENTY of power for me. Although I may look into getting some straitline levers in the future and having them anodized green (unless they start offering green ones), I really liked the ones I had on my old Codes, very comfy.

Wow! looks great.8) Looks like a tank compare with your last bike. Colour scheme looks prefect. BTW how stiff is the frame. Do you feel any flex?
    Vodka anyone? "Honk"

  • As for flex, no, none at all. I'd not expect there to be either on a frame of this kind made for hitting fairly big stuff when the mood takes.

I get a little pedal bob when climbing, maybe 10% of travel at the back (nothing at the front). Nothing major, certainly well withing what I'd deem to be acceptable on a longish travel FS frame anyway. I put that down to me being a fat bastard though and nothing to do with the frame or shock.
I sadly put on a lot of weight in the 4 months I spent away from bikes. I am in the process of losing a couple of stone now to get back to where I want to be. I imagine it will improve as the weight comes off.

I was going to say you'd struggle to make that rear triangle flex! I rode an Anthem last week while a mate rode my Edison, back end felt like spaghetti in comparison.

    Quite.

I find it quite amazing that with my new wheels, this bike will be only 28lbs or so. A bike this strong and this stiff should not be this light.
  • New wheels and tyres fitted.

Bit heavier than I thought. Wheels come in at 1920g which is about 100g heavier than I thought they'd be, plus the new stiffer skewers are fairly weighty too (10mm rear, 9mm front).

Still, coupled with the tubeless setup, it's a combined loss of just over 2lb.

    New weight 28.4lb

Hubs are pretty much silent, and have a nice feel to them, nice quick engagement, very solid feeling. Wheels in general feel very stiff and well made.

Had a quick blast round the street and the 2lb loss at the wheels makes a remarkable difference to acceleration.

Having never used tubeless before I wasn't sure quite what to expect. It was actually very easy to do. The tape was fairly easy to apply, tyres took a little persuasion to get on then poured the sealant in (used 120ml per wheel to be safe). Once they were seated they inflated first time, no problems. I'll have to see how well they hold air, but they seem ok.

Couple of pics to be going on with, will try and get some better ones when it's light.
