    Friere has a mechanical and it's taking ages to sort out - no mechanic there yet. Riders keep falling off - it's a winding descent on damp roads and the surface is poor. De Marchi isn't happy.

    Freire is off again - 84 km left

    Just looked on www.meteox.com and there is a whole load of showers cropping up all along the coast there. tricky afternoon's riding.
    The rain spans from Savona to almost Toulon; these showers i think, will only get worst with a little heat in the sun making the rain pep up.

    Appears it was a crash not simply a mechanical.

    Freire's group is 2'20" down. I think Cancellara is in there too?

    Cancellara is in the front group. No idea where Cav is. Seems like all the Garmin favs are in the 2nd group.

    Yep, just spotted Cancellara. Gilbert, Boonen, Sagan, Bennati, EBH, Pozzato, Petacchi in G1 too.
