ive got a fair amount of royalty free music on my pc for music beds etc

and loads of material that apprently can be constructed into music drum loops, hits, etc etc again all of which is royalty free, you just need a modicum of skill, most of my efforts to date are just awful

Well.. so long as we can get enough decent sounding stuff for the each episode that's fine.... should be fun whatever! :D

I think I may have seen a sort of sneak peek at one of the crudcast contributions. I was driving back down from the mountains after taking some photos, and I passed a group of MTBers dressed like pirates going up the hill.

well... Is there any reason we cant use a music clip if we own the song?

its a very grey area, there are legal ways to get around it on youtube, basically signing that the vid in question isnt for profit or sale.
I dunno. Since I work for a publisher owned studio, I'm not even getting involved in all that mess.

There's a few musos here though, sure some of us could knock together a few tracks.

Why do you want 30 frames per second? It's only a "standard" in a roundabout way, because most online content is from the states. 25P is the defacto standard everywhere else in the world.

Where I work, we're allowed to make no more than 4 copies of a book/magazine. If we want more we have to get permission from the publisher, how they check we've not made more copies I don't know?

How does this work with music? I know you're legally allowed to make one copy of your media stored on a CD and again you're supposed to contact the publisher. I've seen people do this with Xbox games instead of paying full price when the discs were heavily scratched

Basically, you're allowed to make backup copies for your own use, in case the original gets damaged, and that's pretty much it.
Broadcasting, hiring, sharing, public play are all not allowed.

I wonder if the defence "but we only ripped off music we didn't like" works?

hmmmm.... can you not just ask the record labels if you can use the music? I mean the worst than can happen is they say no.... :?

i use these for the games I make. Some nice loops and dramatic stuff too. All royalty free.

You can, yes. Depending who answers the phone they may say yes, or they may say no.
If you word it right, and explain that it's because you're a fan of the music, and that the project is not for money etc, then you can increase your chances of getting a yes.
However, getting through to the right people can be a right royal pain in the arris.

aye basically everything you do is subject to royalty, need a prs licence even to play it in a public place, only exception i can see is if its incidental music, ie if i was interviewing sheep in rhyl and he had his radio on playing bananarama you might just get away with it.

meh its all shades of grey, all major lables complain about piracy, some even look to put pressure on isp's to block offenders etc, yet for some reason nearly all lables give their music away for free on youtube

Sony: IS THIS A BACKUP COPY MR MAK3M
me: erm no you gave it too me for free on your sony music entertainment youtube channel
Sony: damn another one who knows how to split an mp4

Nope, most labels don't give their music away on YouTube. Other people stick it up, and it's frequently pulled down. A mate of mine, for example , has done a few videos of himself drumming along with, or doing drum covers of various tracks, like Travis Barker, basement jaxx etc, to promote himself as a session player. He's been warned about it and had several videos taken down.
You can help your cause a little by putting a link to the amazon or iTunes download page in the description.

well................ I was at Dalby this weekend, with the Veho copy, got a load of recording done over the black runs. Eventually on the third run, I spotted the little fella right in the middle of the trail ahead of me. My first thought was I'd found another Veho - but it was actually mine which had beat me down the hill. Bloody lucky to ever see it again!

And, there are now no vids on it at all. Not sure how but the card is empty.
I did have to reset it as it crashed and wouldn't turn off. Don't suppose anyone else knows if resetting it wipes the card?

    Edit
spoke to soon. Maybe it's the card that's not happy but they are there now. Going through some footage which is obviously me riding in Japan about a week ago.

We should organise a Crudcatcher day out, It would make perfect footage for something like this. Could easily make up a 10 minute segment, interviews with forum members, bits of us riding etc. Shame that everyone lives so far apart really!

I was going to ask if you were sure it was your camera, or had you lost yours somewhere, and found someone else's which had come off

All the videos have been resurected apart from the one that was recording when it abandoned ship - which was the one I was hoping for...
It would possibly have crossed the path a couple of times, beating me to a switchback to record me looking down at it going 'holy cow! I just found a Veho!!'

That might have been perfect for the CrudCast...
